Invite them for a little talk if they seem to be wanting to be engaged in sch activities. Talking with some who seems to be alone is a kind deed. Inviting them to share what's deep inside them is another kind deed and by just listening, you can help them forget for a while loneliness in their alone.

I agree with you. We used to visited old persons on asylums and they stayed very happy only to see us there. They only wanted someone to talk and really hear what they are saying, not only just pretending that you care.

Yes, old people are happy to get people to notice and give them attention. They are missing a lot of the good things they have when they are still young. Old age is a phase of life when everything seem to be fading and going away. A lonely world if there's no one, yes even one to talk to!

I see old people alone all of the time, but I never really worry about them. Sometimes I smile at them. The positive thing is that they are able to go out on their own. Many old people are bedridden or have to use a wheelchair, and they cannot go out to the store all by themselves. So, I would be hoping that they are just happy to go out for some fresh air. I don't think there is much you can do for an old person that is alone. They might go out and meet other old people, and stop to talk.

57 isn't even old. I don't really see myself striking up a conversation with every little old lady I see, just because she's alone.

If a person sitting alone in a mall, that means s/he is not that old. My MIL is 70 yrs old and she likes going to mall alone. She likes strolling alone, maybe she wants some freedom -yah,she wants to enjoy the things that she was not able to enjoy when she is caring and attending her kids till they got married and have family of their own. We never knew what are the reason why some old people wants to be alone. welcome to mylot

I think a good way is go one day to the mall by yourself and when you see some old person alone, go ahead and talk to him. Usually, old persons only wants to talk with somebody else. If you show that you are interesting in his life, he's going to be really happy.
