I can't turn to the right :(

South Korea
July 13, 2011 11:08am CST
I woke up this morning feeling really funny, actually my neck felt funny. By day time my neck hurt so bad I couldn't turn to the right at all, and the situation is still the same. I think I slept in an uncomfortable posture the other night resulting it to this. I can turn to the left, no problem with that but can't turn to the right for the life of me. It hurts when i try to turn to the right so I've been stretching my eyes the whole day, if i've to look for something ot the right side. It even hurts when i laugh or cough It's starting to get on my nerves. Can someone suggest me what I should do to get rid of this pain??? Thanks =)

Take a kitchen towel or hand towel and warm it up in the dryer, microwave, over the bathroom heater, or something like that. Place the warm towel on your neck and enjoy! Trust me it helps you feel tons better very quickly. If you also have very big rocks you can put these in a crockpot, warm them up then put them in a towel, wrap the towel around your neck. These are two methods to getting that neck to feel better! I've had that kind of neck pain before and it isn't fun but this should get rid of it quickly! If not, go see the doc!

Hey SomeCowgirl, Thanks a lot for the instructions. I'v been doing the warm hand towel thing after I read you response and it has helped. Though I'm not in total relief even now, it has helped the pain get a lot lesser. Thanks

Hiya TG, Have woken up before after sleeping in a wrong position although I did not know why either perhaps a bad dream or a good dream. I usually have a hot shower and that shifts most of it and massaging very gently around the area but not right on top of the pain. It usually moves it in no time. Failing Hot Showers and Hot compresses if it does not shift then I would try one of those sprays you know like Ralgex that has pain killer properties in it. If that don´t work you would have to see the Doctor to see what he can do. Probably just a bad posture has triggered it off that´s all it does go sooner or later but it is painful I know. Get better soon.xxx

Hiya TG, Good to see that you got over that it can be very nasty moment to find you can´t move either. Sometimes I do arm and shoulder exercises like the Swimmers do before they have a Race you know and let my shoulders drop. Sitting with the shoulders hunched up is a bad habit that I still have sometimes from when I was a Telephonist and you had to sit for hours like that at a time. If I knew then what I know now I would have taken precautiions to loosen up a bit every half an hour but you were not allowed to get up and wander around like you wanted to bit like now if you have a Job with a Computer you are supposed to stay there. Well you can´t go wandering off as if you were in your own House can you? (grin).

Hopefully by now, things are better for you and you are able to move again. Sometimes it could be something like a pinched nerve, or sleeping wrong but when the pain continues to get worse, this could be reason for concern. I would consider if it is still bothering you to get it checked out to make sure it is nothing serious, or check with someone for a Good deep massage of that area, or try and get an apt with a chiropractor somewhere.

Stiff neck! I have never actually experienced that but i remember my elementary classmates writhing in pain and was crying because she couldn't move her head. I think warm compress would help and then little by little just turn to the left but you have to do this slowly. Others would just snap their head but the pain would be excruciating. HOpe you'll be able to move your head soon.

Putting heat on it should help it a lot. You can heat a towel or something and then place it on your neck. Or if you have any of the heat medicine, for muscle soreness you could use that. If it doesn't help and still continues you should see a doctor. Mine hurts a lot, but it is from arthritis.

The towel suggestion is a good one in response one. I would also recommend to take a very warm bath and relax for about 20 minutes in the warm shower. If at all possible can someone massage the neck area gently? This too can help relax the nerves and or pinched muscles. It it persists for too long say 3 days, I would go see a doctor to see if it is related to anything else.

I strongly recommend that you take a visit to the doctor and let him examin you. Even though you may have slept on one side it may hurt you for a maximum of two hours. Its been way over that. It could be something serious and rather than it getting worst better get yourself treated. The reason I say this is recently I suffered from Belly Palsy Facial Paralyses. I'm doin much better now and almost recovered. I initially thoughht it was some king of a swelling on the face and will go down in a a day or two. but it did not and got worst after a day or two and then I decided to get myself examined and relised that had I not gone in time then it could have been worse. So dont wait and hope its nothing serious. Get well soon..

Hey thanks for your concerns I did some home treatment and it helped me a lot. As of now I'm perfectly fine. I'm so sorry. I hope you get well soon and it's good that you got to the hospital in the right time. Diseases are really scary. We'll never know when we might catch one and the scariest part is not knowing even after a long time.

One of the best way to treat stiff neck is by using metholated ointment and someone should massage to it gentle to loose the tension that was being made to your neck. You should do often head exercise to avoid stiff neck and avoid improper posture when sleeping try to find your comfort position. Hope it helps

You have not been sleeping in a draughty place. Because if you have it can cause you to have a stiff hurting neck. If not I hope in another day you will be alright again. If the pain is unbearable there are painkilling pills. Having a rest lying on your back flat can also ease the pain.

For temporary relief you can apply icyhot or Iodex pain reliever. Or give hot water fermentation and see. If u have combiflam or some pain reliever that can also be taken. Take a cup of hot tea or coffee and then get out of the house for a small walk. u may be alright soon. If it still persists then consult a doctor.
