Inducing labor

I'm pregnant with my second child and if I don't go into labor by Monday, the doctor will induce. I was wondering if any of you have been induced before and what your experience was like. Also if there are any suggestions on how to get things going at home safely? I've been walking and eating pinnapple and it's not helping at all. I'm not going to try Castor Oil as it scares me and can be harmful to the baby. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Don't be scared about inducing labor in a hospital. Inducing labor brings the contractions on faster and (I won't lie a little harder too). But I also had an epidural with my labor. I think from the time my water broke (trickled that is) to the time I delivered was 7 hours. It really didn't seem that long though. Some things you can do to naturally induce labor are walk stairs (be careful and don't fall), sitting on an exercise ball frequently (helps the baby's head get aligned and ready for action). And last but certainly not least, get some good old fashioned loving! Only if your doctor recommends it and it's safe for you of course.

Don't be scared. I had an induced labor through an IV. They put oxytocin in my IV to help me labor. Since it was my first i could never really compare the pain. But they said induced labors are more painful than normal ones but i really didn't mind the pain. I guess all labor pains are just the same.
There's really nothing difficult about induced labor and i had a very good one. I delivered my baby in the DR for only 30 minutes!

I was induced with my first child as well as my 4th child. It was far easier with my 4th child than with my first. You have already experienced labor with your 1st child so this should not bother you. You will check into the hospital early and they will start you on pitocin via an IV. They will continue to monitor you via the belly straps/heart rate monitor and when you get further along they will give you what ever you have decided to take for pain and if necessary break your water. It is not a bad experience. I would not do the Castor Oil thing.

First of all, congratulation on your second baby. Actually, I am a guy, and I am not married, nor I have any children of my own, so I really can't give you any advice at all. I don't know anything about pregnancy, so I will leave it to some other experts here.

My first was induced at 40 weeks. It was horrible. I went in at 5 cent and when they put me on the pictocin it just made it soooo much worse. It is not natural labor pains at all completley different and with no real pause. NOw that said be aware that your labour may stall due to you needing a epidural. I was at 7.5 cent and it stalled my labour FOR OVER 13 hours. Very common I found out.

I was induced with my first child.I was put onto an induction drip which was awful in all honesty. It meant I was restricted to the bed and my contractions were coming really strong and fast even though I wasnt in established labour so had the really bad contractions for longer.I hated it

My two boys were born at 39 weeks pregnancy. However my girl went overdue and I didn't want to be induced in hospital. I wanted a natural and active labor at home so I went off to have a reflexology session. The lady that did that foot massage said that she could make labor start before 48 hours later. It is hard to eat enough pineapple. Amazingly the session worked and my home birth went ahead at 40 weeks and 2 days pregnancy. I hope that you will go for a reflexology session. Good luck with going into labor with your baby.

I was induced with my son and it's not a big deal. It just starts the contractions and my labor was only for an hour and a half. It was easier than the other two. =) I was scared with it too but honestly it will be okay. I'm not sure what you can do besides walking a whole lot. But I promise it doesn't make anything worse.

Hi harmonee,
I just gave birth to my son over a month ago and I was induced. Didn't think that was necessary but the doctor did it anyway. I didn't complain because I was too inexperienced to know any better. :) Satcho is my first. Anyway, I ended up with a very quick, easy, and almost painless delivery. Was asleep the whole time, the doctor had to wake me up because baby was on its way. I hope it will be the same for you should you be induced.
To get things to move quickly along, I suggest you walk, walk, and WALK. I was scared I was going to have a C-section so I started walking. 3 hours a day. On the third day, I gave birth to my son. Hope this helps!
