Hi friends!
I normally keep the notification 'on' for the discussions started by my friends. However, for few weeks I turned ‘off’ all such notifications. I thought that I can search ‘discussions started by my friends’ through the caption available on mylot ‘home page’ and can easily respond. I did not find the experiment very encouraging. I found it difficult to locate older discussions of some particular friend(s) which gets over shadowed by the latest discussions of other friends. Sometimes, I observed that a user in my friends’ list started 8-10 discussions in a row and the first page of the caption ‘discussions started by my friends’ showed discussions from a single user only, meaning thereby, you need to flip through the pages, till you reach the desired result/discussion. I feel it is better to keep the notifications ‘on’ for our friends (you can be selective or could choose randomly, if you do not want to keep the notifications ‘on’ for everyone) instead of keeping the notifications ‘off’. This way I can always respond to older discussions and discussions of my choice, started by my dear friends. I can come to know through the notifications that which of the friends is active on mylot and at what point of time (some of the friends start discussions late at night, I observed). I can read the discussion at the notification stage and can immediately decide whether it is possible for me to respond on the subject or not, else I can delete the notification. There may be some more advantages other than mentioned by me, which you can list out. So do you support my observations and keep the notifications on for discussions started by your friends?

I keep mine "on" so every Monday I got around 80 - 100 notifications to clear. Sometimes it's fun to check all the discussions posted, though most of the time it gets me headache, still I put it "On".
Another benefit is that you would know right away when a friend is responding or commenting on your discussion or responds.

Hi Jenny!
It is always great fun to read and respond to friends' discussions. However, keeping notification 'on' for all our friends could be troublesome. You could do it 'selectively' or by 'rotation', so that your inbox does not get clogged up with so many mails.
You are right notification tells us which of our friend is active on myot.
Thanks for dropping in.
Have a nice day!

Hi deepak, it is the same with me, I normally look through all the discussions started by friends and respond to whatever interests me since it is not possible to respond to all.Sometimes as you rightly point out , one person might start several discussions in a day and sifting through all of them is quite a job..

Hi Kiran!
As regards notifications regarding my discussions - you can turn 'off' my notification and then can turn 'on' again, see if it helps.
When a single user starts discussions in bulk, it gets difficult to check page after page and to reach at the desired discussion and specially when you are mylotting through your mobile handset.
Thanks for dropping in.

Personally for me, it often would depend on the amount of time I have to be active here. Since there are times that I have known people on my friends list to actually start quite a few New discussions in one day this could be a downfall in using the Discussions your Friends start button. I usually have New discussions come to my Email that friends start and get to them when I can. Much easier for me with all the many friends that I have that are active here as well.

I understand that you choose to prefer the option of receiving Notifications and it helps you to quickly check the contents of a particular post, whenever you find time. Many thanks for dropping in.

I really don’t know Deepak.
What you say is correct though…its extremely frustrating and annoying when pages after pages are filled up with discussions by one particular myotter (I do seriously think mylot should do something about this, like maybe two discussions per person per page???)…this is what is happening right now and I’ve actually had to go to the 3rd page to locate your discussion.
However, I too did have the notification ‘ON’ and my inbox was flooded with such notifications, which wasn’t very helpful either. I could never make out the other important mails from under the deluge of mylot notifications, so now I’ve stopped accepting friends at all, so automatically no question of any more notifications. The older ones stay though, alongwith their notifications ‘ON’

Hi Sudipta!
You hit the nail on the head. Searching for a particular friend's discussion(s) sometimes gets very difficult because a single user/friend would start multiple discussions and flipping pages appear very cumbersome. I keep the notifications on for select friends. It is not possible to keep Notification on for everyone. Some friends here appear occasionally and they often start a post. I feel we connect with select few who understand our opinion and views and vice versa. Thanks for dropping in.

Hi my friend dpk!
As for me, I also set my notifications on for my friends, but not with all friends on my list, just to some...haha I do that because I don't want my mail to be flooded with all those started discussions especially if a particular friend is starting tons of discussions daily. Anyway, even if I didn't set my notification on for them, I still able to find their discussions coz it usually tops my friends started discussion whenever I browse it and sometimes I also visit their profiles to look for some discussions from them.
Setting my notification on for some friends makes it easier for me to find them again whenever I comeback after a long vacation here...just like now. hehe

Hi ck!
Welcome back!
I can understand that you keep the notification 'off' for those friends who start discussions in bulks and you just cannot afford to check each and every discussion. It is easier to check (select) friends' discussion through notifications, rather than browsing through mylot pages.
Many thanks for dropping in after a long time.

I find that not all notifications come to me. I will think of an member I hadn't seen on for awhile and go to their profile to see when they logged in last and it was that very day. So when I am done with my notifications I will go to the site and check for new, hot, or recent discussions.

Hi!
Do you mean to say that you are selective and you selectively go to your friends' profile page to check their post, as you do not get regular notifications?
Did you get any notification for this post?

I don't have notification for almost half a year now.
I never turned off my notification and i did report this matter to mylot and admin and still it is not being resolved.
It's not easy to scan friends started topic, and topic/s that i've responded to check who comment back or who give sub-comment/s.
But i get used to it somehow and find it easy in the long run.
Now you find it hard,so you could just imagine what i am going through

Hi Jai!
I can understand your problem because one of the dear friends here also mentioned about the same problem and she finds it cumbersome to check responses to her own posts and comments etc. I think your options get limited and you need to check the home page for responses etc.. Even though you have become used to it, I feel it is time consuming and our time is always at premium. Many thanks for dropping in.

Hi dpk!
My notifications are always kept on for everyone. But I don't check my emails most things regarding myLot - too much to go through - so I just check everything via the homepage, which I rely on heavily. You're right, I have to flip through a lot - sometimes pages if I must . . . but for me it's easier that way than to sift through my email (which is badly cluttered with almost nothing deleted among stuff from other sites and such). So thank goodness for that homepage tab in my case!! I don't come here as much as I'd like to these days, but when I do, I do have specific friends in mind (like you!). If I happen to see them in that "discussions started by my friends" tab, then I will go to their profile and look for recent discussions. There's just no way I can comment on everyone's discussions - even for friends - but I at least try to reach out to those who are friends when I can. Hope all is well with you dpk!!!

Hi dear!
It means though you keep your notifications on for each of your friends, yet you prefer to check their discussions through mylot Home page. I think if you turn on notification option for selected friends, then you may not find your inbox cluttered with too many notifications. I am saying so because we know that we just cannot respond to each discussion due to so many reasons, however, there are some select few friends, whose discussions we do not want to miss, in that case notification option helps.
I am thankful to you that you always look forward to my discussions and do not fail to respons to them.
dpk
PS - I am doing fine. How are you?

You're right - I guess that just means I am lazy - ha ha!! I haven't been here in a week or so I think!! Very busy - keeping my 2 little ones busy as school is out and it is summer vacation for my oldest one. And so my time here is limited - regardless of what's going on with the notifications! Otherwise we are doing well - and hope you are doing fine this week too!!

Keeping notifications on for all 'friends' will only clog the inbox and going through all those notifications to see if they are of interest will take eons. You could perhaps earmark some friends whose topics you have found interesting and only keep those enabled and for others there are so many ways you can search for them. You could perhaps occasionally visit the home pages of friends and check out for any topics that they may have posted and as you also know there are topics under various headings. It is also not necessary that one should go for topics that are posted only by friends.

Hi!
I did not say that Notification should be turned on for all friends, I know practically it may create problems of 'too many' notifications in our mail box. Visiting someone's home page will be time consuming in comparison to receiving and reading the Notifications, I believe.
PS - I appreciate your choice of Rose.

Hello Dpk. I get notification in my mailbox regarding all discussions opened by friends and mylot notifications regarding tasks and friends comments to my responses. As I do not/cannot respond at that time I delete them and look for them when I am logged in to mylot. That way I selectively choose some topics I feel more at home to respond or comment and from other discussions I try to gain some useful information or knowledge. Of course, I am getting more and more interested to respond to the discussions - not only my friends' but others' too, when I feel I can contribute to the discussion from my own knowledge and experience. I may not be doing much justice to my friends this way but by and by I shall try to improve on this also.

I would say - before deleting notifications you could go through those notifications can see if there is anything worth commenting. Finding posts/comments through mylot Home page or user's profile page is a time consuming process, to my mind.

Of course, dpk. I delete them only after reading the posts in the mail. I do not find it convenient to respond immediately. That's the reason I prefer to delete the mails to empty my inbox. This particular one I am responding straightaway to clear your ideas regarding my deleting action.

I never turned my notifications on for my friends. Whenever I get a new friend in here, I always make it a point to turn off immediately their underlying notifications. I really don't want to flood my email with notifications even if I check it everyday. I just use the discussion tab to search for the discussions that my friends started. Yes, there really is a hassle when one of your friends gunned too many discussions at the same time. I just try to check every page of the friend started tab for the other discussions of my friends. I was just used to roaming around and responding to different discussions that the routine has been intact with me now.

Hi Agent!
If you can search through various pages to reach the desired discussions started by your friends, I think that is fine. If you decide to keep the notifications 'off' for all the friends, you may not come to know immediately which friends started a new discussion and when, till you check mylot pages. Thanks for joining.

I don't spend a whole lot of time on myLot, simply because I get busy with other stuff. My friend notifications and daily digest are the only things that get me over here. I think the notification aspect is a must if I want to keep participating. I don't participate as much as I like and think I've lost some followers because I started a discussion about a week ago and no one responded for the longest time. As it stands, only one person responded to it. One of the reasons I don't start discussions. I'd rather respond to them.
So if you want to get me on here, the best thing is to start a discussion that interests me (once I'm on here I usually go to discussions in my interests). I hope people aren't ignoring me just because I haven't been around as much as those who are on for hours at a time.

Hi pat!
It does not matter how much time you spend on mylot, however, if you have notifications piled up in your mail box, you can always check the same at your convenience. Notifications do help in quickly checking the post.
I am sorry to hear that only one respondent responded to your post. (If you could send me the link of the discussion, I will try to respond).
I can understand your point of view that some of the mylotters believe in answering discussions, rather than starting their own.
Thanks for dropping in.

hi dpk well back when I had one hundred friends I used notifications pretty well but now with one thousand no I have to go to the friends started and hot and best discussions instead. I cannot respond to one thousand people in months. So I am deleting and using friends started and it works better for me. So I am thinking of dropping the notifications and going directly into mylot as I can spend 8 hours but not 24 mylotting and as a person aged 84 I do need to sleep sometime in all this. I always search o ut all my dear friends but not all thousand. lol. I do have to do a few other things besides mylot. lol

I always keep all my notifications on and at the moment I have 1428 of them so you could say I am a tad behind, lol! I find that by keeping all the notifications on I don’t miss any of my friends’ posts. Although I am very behind it is a lot easier to sort through all the discussions from my friends. Great when I am short of time which is the story of my life at the moment.

Hi deepak! I actually do both. I try to keep up with the 10 pages allowed of "friends started" discussions, but if I have been exceptionally busy, I have my notifications on for a back up. I do that because there have been times when the notification option was not reliable. There were times when myLot was having issues and I wasn't getting notifications. I got in the habit of following the friends started tabs then.
For me..it is better to do both.

Hi dpk
Yes I keep all notifications on and have a filtered folder in my emails. This way I do not miss a discussion and or can tell if a member is not around. If I notice someone not creating a discussion in a while who normally does this prompts me to visit their profile and see if they have been around and or missing for some time.
I do not turn them off because I would not be able to manage as you said by skimming through the loads of pages. I also keep up with members updates and by getting the notifications I can see the earliest updates from their discussions. There are several members who discuss their happenings and I find it easier to get the notifications in my email.

I think all your (mylot) friends should feel proud of you because you have such arrangements that you can know about them and their discussions through email notifications. You appear to have lots and lots of patience and that must be appreciated. Hats off to you.. Thanks for dropping in.
