Will this be worth it?

I've got a job offer. It's not really a permanent job. It's more of like a "gig" or a part-time contractual job. The salary is very low. It's less than what my friends earn. But what I like about it is that the job would be in Hong Kong. All expense paid, including the plane tickets, food and accomodation. The job is only for 2 months. So it'll be like a vacation or adventure for me. Well, of course there is the "work" part, but I still get to feel like having a vacation because I'll be abroad! But what bothers me is the salary. I really think it's low. So I'm not sure if it's worth going for it. What do you guya think? Should I take the offer and go through all the hassle of applying for a work visa and get paid a small amount?

So you get money and you don't have to pay for ANYTHING? I'd say that's pretty good wages, personally. Basically a job where you get to live for free and they give you spending money to go out and enjoy yourself while you're there!

Well they said it was all expense paid. However i looked at the food and transpo allowance, it was really small. So i might be using my salary to buy food as well. They do not give us spending money to go out and enjoy. Would you still take it?

I don't like travelling, so I'd have said "no" anyway. I guess it comes down to whether it's a huge effort or not. Having a couple of months somewhere new (that you'd apparently like to see) is pretty cool, even if you're using your salary to fund the 'holiday'. If it's not going to make any difference to your current job (i.e. you can go away for two months, come back and everything's as it was when you left), it's pretty much a no-brainer: you won't get many offers like that in life. If it's more complicated, well... harder decision.

I am very interested to find out if you actually took this job or not? Please update. it's an amazing opportunity. This job pays low in money but high in experience and I want to know if it was worth it if you did go.

The times I worked overseas were lovely and very memorable. I went to work as a children's nanny in Finland at age 18 years old. When I was 20 to 21 years old I had a working holiday visa for Australia. I worked as a children's nanny, a factory packer and a charity collector. I suggest you take up the offer of working in Hong Kong. It would be an exciting adventure. Some people work for the contract then have a bit of a vacation. The low salary does not matter as long as you enjoy the experience.

Are you single? no kids? If it is expense paid including plane tickets and lodging then i would say GO FOR IT! It is a chance, i have been wanting to go abroad and for you it might be the chance to also color your resume. Having such in the resume may also help you my friend for your future career plus you will never know what will happen after that two month time there..you might be absorbed by the company and get really hired. So go for it and enjoy!

If the employer, who is offering this job at you, is honest and serious, I would take his offer. You can visit an interesting city as Hong Kong and all your expenses will be paid. Further you will earn some money and the job is only for short time. Good luck!

It is hard to get work and sometimes you take what you can get and honestly it sounds like a pretty good deal with the accomodations, food, travel and more paid for. My guess is that none of your friends have been to Hong Kong either. You will have a once in a lifetime experience and some good memories as well. If there aren't other jobs lined up for you I would take it because at the very least it is better than no job and it may even impress employers (have a story to tell) when they see your resume upon your return.

Maybe the salary is low since your food and accommodation will be free. It is a nice opportunity. If you are not working right now and if you are not engaged in any business then it won't hurt to accept this job. This will be a new experience for you.

hello pink, Considering the vacation and all expense paid, why not. As long as the salary is enough to compensate my living...it's only for 2 months and after that you can look for a better paying job. But the chance to go to other place without paying your ticket and other expenses is only once in a lifetime chances.

You have said it, that the work will be somewhat a kind of vacation for you and you will have the pleasure of being in a place like Hongkong. If your working status here will not be affected and you'll still have a chance to get job there ,then take it. If you are after the money and not after the adventure, then better not take it. It's all up to you,my friend, weigh things and decides!

If there;s any hindrance on your part like having a job at the moment, or schooling, then go for it. It's your chance to see another country, without having to spend a lot. Just imagine yourself going on a vacation, yet still being paid. But be careful, there are a lot of bad things that happened to Filipinos while going there.

Do a thoroughly evaluation of the details. Do a calculation what is good and is it worth it? What are the benefits? Are you willing to do it for the low salary? Can it be a good reference in a future application seeking a job? Sometimes the salary has to be valued with the working experience for future qualifications as a good reference.

Come on honey take a chance ( from the movie coming to America) I would definitely take it, if it doesn't cost more money than what they are paying me. You only live once in this life time and if there is nobody holding you back, why not take it. Good Luck! Best Mom Ever

Yes, I think that the job would be worth it. For only 2 months, you are getting basically a free, all expenses paid trip to Hong Kong, and even though you need to work for a bit, you will also get fantastic opportunities to travel and meet other people. I think it will be a great experience for you so you should look at it that way, rather than looking at the salary. A job is not just all about the salary - it is also about the experience and the other perks, and seems like you get a lot of other perks with this job! I would definitely take the job :)

Hi pinkpiglet, If you really like the job,I'd say you go for it.Just look at it as going to a vacation and doing something you are passionate about.Even if you won't be earning much,at least you get to enjoy and explore what Hong Kong has to offer.:-)

Honestly, if you don't have anything you would lose by taking it (like a better job) then I would go for it because it would be enriching and an adventure.

I would figure out how much time I would be working and if I would actually have time to site see and get around and about. Also, what sort of expenses would have to come out of your pocket? If you would have time to enjoy yourself then I say go for it. If it would be all work and no play for a small amount I would say skip it.

Do you mean "gig" as in musical performance? If yes then I would certainly go for it. I have this huge thing when it comes for music and performances, and I would love to perform if I get a chance. If I were you I would definitely go for it coz I will not only be doing a part time job but will be exploring a new place too. And Hong Kong, ohhh I have been wanting to there for like forever. I have a friend living there and it's been ages since I saw him, I'm planning to go visit him next year Anyway back to you, I think you should go for this coz no matter how less you will be earning, you'll get a chance to explore a new place, new culture and sort of like a vacation. Well anyway good luck with whatever you choose to do

Hi pinkpiglet! Well, for a young active, adventurous girl like you, I think I would take the job. That is if you aren't committed and engaged to any other jobs. :)

we are different. Maybe you have many things to consider. Like, are you waiting for any other jobs? how about your house, family or pets? would this job be enough to cover your bills for two months? But If I would be given that chance, I would definitely grab it. It would be like a getaway vacation with pay for me..
