about Mr. Spock - as a Space Wizard...
Now, I'm a big SF fan, and I discovered science fiction because of Star Trek - oh, I'd've probably gotten there sooner or later, but Trek made it sooner.
And Spock was my favorite, still is honestly...
So, I follow on Twitter Leonard Nimoy. And he posted this...

(not a referral link)
NOW... as an SF/F fan, I can TOTALLY see this. I've read most of the article, but we are going to have to go get a small trap to catch Kismet's sibling, so I thought I'd post if for your reading pleasure too!
So, are you like me, and only like Classic Trek, or did you discover Trek through one of the later franchises? Or do you even LIKE SF? (don't bother to respond if you are just going to tell me you hate SF)

Spock has always been my favourite character in Star Trek. I love the banter he has with Captain Kirk and Bones (in particular) and smile when he says, "that's illogical" or "that's logical" lol.
The new Torchwood series started tonight. Not a big fan, to be honest. Give me Star Trek anyday..the older the better as we watched them all when I was growing up!
I wasn't expecting to enjoy the Star Trek Experience in Vegas but I did! I've two Tribbles to prove it!

I'm not even sure if it's still there now as it was losing money due to the downturn. Things change in Vegas so much that I can't keep track and it's been over 3 years we were last there..a long time in Vegas terms.

I think that Spock was the ultimate geek's geek. A science genius that is unaffected by feelings just the facts mattered to him, I just skimmed the article but I am going to read it properly after, but the first paragraph shows how science was came to replace the superstition and magic which was used to describe things that humans did not understand.
I had watched mostly the movies of the classical series before seeing Star Trek - The Next Generation, Voyager and Deep Space Nine and the various cartoon versions mostly in reruns. I am a fan but not necessarily a trekkie, I cannot tell you the names of every crew member from every show, the exact names of every ship, know each species or even planet that they landed - which I have met people who can. I have read a few of their books and watched a few documentaries and even fan films(some are very well done) and since getting into the realm of SF I have watched some of the original episodes. I will admit to enjoying it more when I was younger, that Gene Roddenberry's ideals changed in later Star Treks as with Earth: Final Conflict and Andromeda, which showed a bigger relation to how these worlds were at war rather then their peaceful exploration and investigation.

I've been a Trek fan since TOS was the first and only Trek Series...On the Subject of Magic and Science,Arthur C Clarke is credited with "Any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from Magic.." it fits with the article...

Oh yes, the incomparable Arthur C. Clarke - inventor of the communications satellite and writer of some pretty great SF.
Yeah, Classic Trek is the ONLY Trek in my book, but I've know fen to get in from later shows, only goes show the generation gap...

I don't have time to read it all, either, but I enjoyed the reference to the 1902 movie, which I have on my TiVO and have watched a few times.
I never got into the Trek sequels like Voyager and the like, although I did enjoy many episodes of the one with Jean Luc Picard--my ex was a Trek lover, too. I flat out did not like Voyager.
But I did really like the new Trek movie with young doc, Spock and Kirk!

Great article as always ElicBxn.
I do enjoy Science Fiction and always fascinated each time I view anything to do with it. I do enjoy almost everything related to Science and find it quite intriguing.
Of all of the Spock was my favorite also.

Being a younger generation, I don't get a chance to watch the earlier Star Trek. My first experience is watching ST on TV. I'm amazed by the technology they had.
As for my favorite character, I choose Jean-Luc Picard and Data
BTW I don't like the newer version of ST. I remember watching a TV series of ST. The captain name is Captain Archer, forget the title of the movie. Although it's not a bad movie, the lack of memorable character there is disturbing.

Interesting article. Thanks for the link.
I started reading SF when I was about 11, so of course I watched ST when it first came out a few years later.
