Do you watch shows just because everyone else does?

I know that many people watch shows like American Idol and the Apprentice just because everyone else is watching them. Personally, I could care less who is on American Idol. To me, the show is just a modern day version of Solid Gold. I watch shows because they capture my interest. I would rather watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition or Undercover Boss any day over American Idol and the Apprentice and yes, I have watched those shows to try and figure out why the hype and they did not gain my attention. I do like to watch the show "America's Got Talent" sometimes though.

I don't watch very much tv, so I don't see a lot of the popular shows. I might take a look at a really popular show just to see what the hype is about.

I enjoy watching tv at set times of the day. I would much rather be online making money.

I'm not the type of person that will follow and watch a show simply because the show is popular. I will watch shows because I personally enjoy them. Sure, some shows that I have like have been popular, but the popularity of the show didn't impact why I watched it. It's more of a coincidence. At least, in my case with certain television shows. It's just the way that I prefer to do things. I prefer to watch television shows that I like watching.

Me too. I will watch it if it captures my interest. If not I am going to change the channel and find something that looks more interesting to me.

I do like the Extreme Makeover show, and have watched Undercover Boss a couple of times, but mostly I do not watch any ongoing show. I enjoy Biggest Loser when it is on. The others do not interest me at all.

I also like Biggest Loser even though I thought that the title was insulting until I watched the show. I don't watch it consistently though because they have too many versions on there are couples and siblings...that type of thing. I couldn't keep up with them all.

There are shows that I will watch an episode or two, to see if I like them when they are recommended by friends but then I if I don't relate to the show I will stop watching it. This helps in two ways, one if my friends that watch or are hooked want me to watch, I can tell them I have watched but did not like it, that way they aren't always telling me to watch it. Secondly by finding out a little about the show it allows you to stay in the loop when they talk about what happened the previous episode. I have as yet not seen Apprentice, American Idol the same. I am not a huge fan of reality shows, so most of those I avoid. I do like makeover shows and documentary styled shows though, but prefer scripted shows.

That is what I do as well because people act like you are crazy if you don't follow certain shows or like you just crawled out from under a rock. I just have others that I would rather watch. I will pick Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventures any day over American Idol and Apprentice.

I watch a lot of TV, too much actually. But I watch what interests me, what I like. I have seen some of American Idol and didn't care for it, the same with The Apprentice. There are few reality shows that I like. There was one season of Survivor that I watched a long time ago but I haven't seen it in years. I like Wipeout most of the time. But mostly I like dramas and comedy shows, science fiction, and such. For example my favorite Summer show is Rookie Blue.

I like dramas too. My favorite one is Law and Order Special Victims Unit though it can be quite sick at times. I also like the show Criminal Minds and House. I am going to miss the show House when they take it off television.

I am selective with my TV shows as I am with the movies I watch. Just because someone says they like and or do not will not keep me from watching. I generally take a look and regardless how others feel I may or may not watch them. Most things some of the people do not like to watch in my circle of acquaintances, I always like. lol Which is one of the reason I never mind spoilers because I like to take a look and determine for myself, even if they said it went this or that way.

I too check out Days of Our Lives spoilers and other people ask me "Why would I do that?" Sometimes they do change the storylines even off the spoilers and I just like to be in the know of things.

I don't get influenced to watch a certain show simply because everyone is watching and talking about it. In our country, every time a new season of American Idol is running, it seems every one is following it, from the audition to the grand finals. The last time I watched AI was during Chris Daughtry. I have not watched a single episode since then. Like you, I also watch shows that interest me. I love travel related shows,a few cooking show from the Food Channel, and yes the Extreme Makeover.

For me, watching TV is a moment to lay down and be cozy y bed. I don´t "follow" any shows. There are some I like more, but if I don´t see them, I don´t mind. After a while, all shows and serials start repeating themselves so I prefer a movie or a good book.

I know some people who will even watch reruns over and over. I get tired of seeing the same thing. I would rather watch a new movie than watch a movie that I have seen ten times already with a few exceptions. I never tire of watching the movie "Grease" or the comedy "She's Out of Control."

yes somethings I watch tv shows just curious why it is popular to others. If it catches my attention then will I'll surely got into it. But if not, why should I watch it? even do everyone is talking about it. We have different taste in what we watched...

That is my thoughts exactly. If a show doesn't keep my attention I feel that I am wasting my time by watching it. I could be doing better things with my time then.

No, I definitely won't watch shows just because everyone else is watching them. If a tv show doesn't interest me, then I won't watch it. I'm not really a big fan of reality tv and I can't stand American Idol. I only have about 4 or 5 tv shows that I actually like to watch regularly. If they're not on, then I'd rather be on the internet trying to earn a few extra bucks.

Sometimes popularity of the shows catches my attention.I watch them to see why people watch them so much.but after some episodes of the show i stop watching if i find the show is not interesting. Many times i find that the shows that appeal others does not necessarily appeal us.Thus i watch shows that appeal me.

I was never one of the kids even in school that did something just because others did it. I wore clothes that I liked. I did pouf my hair up tall back in the 80's because that was in, but I always tried to be true to who I am and what I liked.

I watch anything that I can relate to my interests and talents. I am a singer and I love watching American Idol too or any other performing competition. I also love home makeovers, clean house, deserving designs and the like because I am also fond of trying to make my house beautiful. Since I also love to bake, I am also very fond of watching DC Cupcakes. I love watching dance competitions also. And if these shows are not at the time showed, I'd go and search for interesting movies to pass my time.

I think maybe that is part of my trouble of not getting into the show American Idol. I studied voice when I was younger and in college and I notice if the voice seems raw and untrained. I see things in these shows that other people don't see because of the classes that I have taken. I have watched American Idol before and the person that they picked as a winner seemed rough around the edges to me.

Nope, I don't just watch shows because everyone else does. Like you, I watch shows that really captures my interest. For me, it would not matter if it is a well known show or not, just as long as i gets my attention and i find it interesting as well as amusing. It is after all entertainment, I would not watch a show where it won't entertain me one bit even if it is famous as they say. But during most of the time i am recommended a show that a lot of my friends watch, I always ask for a preview or a summary of what the plot is all about. If it is interesting enough, then I would see for myself if it really is a worthwhile watch or not. :)

I watched a couple episodes to see if the show caught my attention, but those shows really did not get my attention. I even tried a couple different times in different seasons. Because after all, maybe the show got better and I did not know it but they still did not catch my attention. I do like the reality show that is Biggest Loser and I like the reality show on MTV about Teen Moms though I wonder how much is real and how much is fake.

I definitely don't watch shows just because my friends do. In general I don't care for reality shows like survivor, american idol, etc. If I want to see drama there is enough in real life for my taste. I usually like comedic and witty shows. I like Bones, Eureka, Royal Pains, etc.. I am also a fan of Japanese Anime. Sometimes I take a suggestion and try it out but only if it peaks my interest.
