Has anyone tried to becoma a video game tester online? I was thinking about it, how much can you actually make by testing a video game?

Oh my I tried this a few years back and tried to work for this company that was suppose to pay me for testing their video games and let me tell you. Make sure you like playing games or it will just fizzle out like it did for me. I got so bored and since I am not a video game player I ended up quitting. So definately make sure that its something that you enjoy. Good luck!

While browsing over the internet looking for ways to make some money online, I have see sites promoting games and looking for game testers. When I have the spare time, I do enjoy playing online games. But, I don't have the skill to test or play the video games of the day. Some of them are quite complex and would require lots of skill to play.

I've beta-tested a few games in the past and it was never paid. I would imagine some companies will pay for beta-testers but you'd need some experience in QA, not just in playing games: it's a pretty technical thing, reporting bugs and tracking changes (especially if there's game balance or real-life technical calculations to be included for realism). Definitely fun, though - and VERY cool to see your name listed in the credits.

I actually have never heard of this and did not know it was possible. I am not sure I would do well at it though. I am not a big video game person. If it's lucrative enough though, I could get good at it, LOL...let me know what you find out please!

It is very dependent on what game, or what company supports the game. The more popular the game or the more famous the company that endorse the game the better the pay right, just makes sense. So rates will vary. Though for the more popular and famous games, to become a tester, you must have something credible under your resume in gaming so that they will accept you as a tester. Usually gaming experience as, being high on the online ladder, or being a professional in the past may really help. Though I must add, it is very difficult to be high on the ladder or become a progamer, unless you already are, and you are very skilled ^^. You can also get famous by reviewing you own games personally and interact with players, which may eventually lead for a gaming company to hire you as they have seen how adequate you review games. But I must add, some progamers get payed just as much as lower rate athletes. Some could get paid an average persons yearly salary in North america, some could get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. Electronic companies are not cheap, If you watch G4 channel, they are usually at gaming conventions, and there was xbox players in contract for 3 years for 5.6 million. In starcraft, players like BoxeR is paid just over 300,000$ a year, that is just the contracts those don't include external promoters or endorsements of companies they wear on their shirt. And these make sense, if rappers sell 15$ a CD and become millionaires, even with bootlegging, games sell from 20$-70$ sometimes more, and they sell millions of each game, they can certainly afford paying for a lot of gamers lol.
