what are your weaknesses?

now that's one dreadful question i don't want to hear in a job interview. from what i have read, a smart way of answering that tricky question is to be honest and still confident in dishing out some of the simple shortcomings of yours and your capacity in overcoming them. the interviewer is not focusing about the list of your faults but rather in how true you are able to present them and your willingness to improve. i was once asked that question and i only quipped 'i tend to overwork at times, a workaholic one might say'. now i don't think its an impressive answer. so guys, how do you respond to that? any additional tips? thanks for your comments.

I hate that question too. I never know what to say. I am very meticulous which can make me spend more time on projects than some people. I am also not "programmed" to allow my work to be done poorly, which also makes me take longer to finish than some other people.

Another one thing I thought of after I hit reply was that I am very independent and have a hard time asking for help when I "know" I can do it myself.

hey there :) how are you? i am planning to apply for a new job next week, i am kinda nervous though because i am not really comfortable going through the application process again. the last time i was interviewed was more than 1 year ago ^^ i was never asked this question before, although i have always anticipated this one. and i agree when you said that the interviewer is really not "measuring" your real weaknesses, rather, the question is intended to intimidate you, and see if you will answer as honestly or truthfully. also since it's an "anticipated question" it is easy for the interviewer to determine if your answer is scripted or not, so try to act like you are thinking, he-he. so my tip for seemingly difficult job interview questions like this would be: take a pause before answering, tell the truth but twist it a little (make it sound that though it's a weaknesses you are currently working on improving it). hope that helps! - kat

Yes, that is a question very often asked at the interviews. The interviewer expects to have an honest answer. One has to be prepared to respond to that question when going for an interview. When I had an interview once, my answer to that question was that I get lazy some times. Ha ha ! And the interviewer started laughing, and he said "Yes, you are honest. Everybody gets lazy some times". But, I got the job !!!

i am impatient on some ways, but i can be so very patient in a lot of aspects. but during interviews, i usually cite a weakness but in a way converting that into a plus, like i skip meals in order to finish a task, which would denotes hard-working side of me.
