Even at the simplest detail, But don't asked me because I might end being blank too after being asked a history question out of Nowhere.. though I do remember watching Noli me Tangere on several occassions, even youtube recently. but even so, if such situations like this happens, i might end up looking dumb too. Not a referral LInk (Filipino Language) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plj4qgxNXa8 The entire segment was about how much Filipinos Remember Jose Rizal, it's like determining how much dying fan you can be to the people who have been known as heroes. but after asking people randomly, it seems even students have a hard time putting it to the heart. sad that they will only try to remember when ever exams nears by. But for me, I think Loving the country is most important thing. what's the use of remembering everything when you are willing to self off you're country and people. I don't wanna talked about it any further. proves that most of us ordinary filipinos easily forget things. Except the fact I have known a Rizalist organization who promotes rizal to the people..is probably not in this quick Q n A snap portion. But I kept asking myself through my 27+ of my life: What has happened to us?

Hello Sis Jaiho, Surely you have a huge point regarding that, If you asked about it am sure they will know a lot more. I think there's a need for promotion for our history of our nation most specially those who had wanted our freedom for the country. It reminds me a lot to read my history again. Have a nice day.

Many find history boring and unimportant because its over, done. But for me, i believe it is important to know about our history because what they did became a significant factor what we are now. Just like last June where Rizal's 150th birthday was commemorated it was nice because it gave me the way to tell my children who Rizal was.. or what he did for the country and how important he is to the country. They were curious at the commercial shown. Yes it is important to patronize our country and love our country but is more important is our actions for our country. What is the use of loving the country if you are not even doing anything for the country. But i still believe part of it should start with the government, the government may advocate stuff regarding our history but there are still a lot of flaws coming from them which makes people hate the government

I have been a fan of Noli and El Fili since high school and i have digested it well. You are right though that remembering doesn't make me patriotic at all if i'm willing to sell off my country. Like others my ideas are more inclined to western cultures and in fact i practice them. To be honest i couldn't even speak our national language as fluently as others. Maybe it's because i live in Iloilo, but that's not an excuse right? I prefer to watch foreign movies in the theater and consider watching our own as a waste of my money. I would rather watch that for free. I suck as a Filipino, nevertheless i love my country. I do intend to move out soon as what's happening in our country is just depressing but i did promise myself i'll always come back to my real home country. I am proud to be pinoy but my ways seem to be in contrast to what i'm feeling.

Letran, If Rizal was alive today or even in somewhat ghost form, he might scratching his head when it comes to us and our present society. It is sad that for all the sacrifices and unhappiness Rizal endured for the freedom is only only reduced to textbook and exam memorization. If you like a Bayaning Third World reference, a one peso coin. By the way, I recommend the film. Basically, I don't what is the state between the Filipino people and the country's history. Basically, majority of the people don't care and the only concern is working abroad for more money or finishing the damn test so that the minimum requirement of a bachelor degree will enable the student to get a job (any job). I believe that in the onset of Rizal's birthday last month, somebody had commented about the Rizal exposure of the media. And in my opinion, Rizal needed the exposure, not for his sake but for ours. So that at least we have a sense of what history is and why our society is like this today. You might feel sad Letran, but I felt so utterly pathetic and ashamed when I watched the clip. I don't know about Rizal's feeling but I think I am right in saying that if we can't even get this right, how can we really know who we are as a people? If Rizal was the First Filipino, what are we supposed to call ourselves today? Perhaps other nation's claim us having no identity has a bearing after all. I do not want to be ashamed of being a Filipino, just like Rizal was. I grew up with an identity and a people that I call my countrymen. But perhaps, I also ashamed that as a people, we never really come that far compared to the people of Rizal's time. Maybe Rizal shouldn't have taken the road less taken.

Hello Jeanne, Most people study now because they only want to have higher form of education in order to get a BETTER JOB and not to remember history and love for our country. that's what this generation's family does now a days. they let their kid study but doesn't help them patrionize our heroes this what has come into our democracy. But Rizal was aggressive and principled not to mention nationalistic but only wanted equal opportunities between spaniards and Indios which the Government never understand. Have a nice day.

I somewhat relating on what you are saying. I'm a college student and presently studying the life of Rizal. I enjoyed this subject a lot because I'm somewhat impressed with the doings of Rizal. Sometimes I think of what if there is another Rizal here on the preset time. I'm sure He'll definitely make Filipinos proud.

Hello Gidz0518, But those people didn't enjoy the subject, probably some old people didn't might have forgotten it too. I used to enjoy it when I was in college but I never had the chance to be consistently studying or remembering his stories. I hope at least some of those writings had inspired some of our people. have a nice day.

Hi Letran Knight: It's not only in your country. I have this same concerns. It seems that television, the internet and in general our culture has taught our children to just feel interested about certain things that are cool right and fun but that make them think and act as if there's only the present time. At the same time whe n you are young you feel that you are the center of the universe so you don't care about history. That's sad. At least this was not my case and I love studying history while I was a student ALVARO

Hello my friend catch, Yes, some parts of it but not exactly the entire biography of Jose Rizal, even his real complete name is hard to remember. the only part of the history that I usually remember was what when we were told when I was grade five and that is when Emilio Aguinaldo had Bonifacio killed.. we can't afford to remember every thing but i feel sad for those students.

Smart people say that: "If you don't have past you will not gonna have future" I think it is very important to learn history and to know your Roots. And don't forget that history is Repeated And that Napoleon and Hitler fell at the same fight at the same place against Russia.. :)

Hello Yoniarnon, I See history repeats itself over and over again, so many things has happened and yet i see the same kind of situation but a lot worse now than before. I am not sure about the dictators history though. but I do understand hitler wanted the people to love germany, but wrongly hated the jews. that's a sad history of terrible genocide and racism. have a nice day.

i am not surprised, even in our country the Philippines, i think were foreigners on our own land.... we can't even explore our countries tourist spots.... maybe the reason is because the Philippines is separated and surrounded by bodies of water making in 7,107 islands low and high tide.... this also applies to the History of the Philippines, where the support education is not easily achieved....
