Depends on your phone. My suggestion, if you have an alternitive method of navagating (such as touch screen) use that as much as possible. If not, clean your trackball. Just like computer mice, track balls in cell phones can get dirty especially if they're your main source of navagation. The more you use something, the quicker it'll get dirty mostly due to oil and dust mites that come from your fingers. Just like mice, the trackball operates roughly the same. Power off your phone, and lightly graze the top with a damp lint-free cloth. Do not use paper towels because they can scratch the glass of your phone. Be as gentle as possible, and let the phone sit untouched for about ten minutes before powering it on again. This gives the device plenty of time to dry. If you want, dust it with a dry lint-free cloth before powering it on again. It's always reccommended to do any cleaning you may want to do with the phone powered off. Never place it under running water, and when not in use store in a cool dry place. Like many eletronics, elements can effect the trackball, mainly because unlike mice... the trackball is exposed. That's why it's advised to keep your phone in a case when not in use by you. This keeps the phone cool, while at the same time protecting it from dust and oil that might jam your trackball. If cleaning the trackball does not resolve the jaming issue, consult your carrier, or phone's website to see other trouble-shooting tips or redeme warnty or something.

I can't sort out the cleaning of trackball. After cleaning it many times its was still in jammed condition. I took assist of a technician from mobile company. He has also told me that their is no way to clean trackball of your cell. He has found that the cell is in warranty period & their is no physical damage occurred. As the mobile is in condition of redeem warranty I gave it for servicing. During servicing of trackball I was watching what they are doing. At servicing center their is a service that they service your mobile in front of you if you don't trust them. I had seen that their is lots of dirt & some foreign(black) material on the sensor's ship as well as on sensors. I am sure that because of that trust trackball got jammed & even if trackball is moving their is no navigation at all.

Hi.. just like kaylachan suggested, you must clean your trackball frequently. I always using acetone every month, at least once a month..You have too take care of it.I have ever had same experience when my old blackberry trackball got dirty and jammed even I have important message to be sent out. That's the reason I always doing maintenance for it. But now I use different type of touchpad, so more unnecessary maintance is required..
