Renting an Apartment in the City? How much Do you Pay?

Hey all!
We have a very big discussion here in Israel about the cost of renting an apparment in the big cities.
Many people are now protesting against the costs of the apartments.
in Tel-Aviv we pay about 1,200 - 1,700 dollars per mounth for a small 3 rooms apartment.
I'm interested to know how much do you pay in your cities for your house?

Here in Los Angeles we pay $1100 upwards for a 1 bedroom apartment so I think you guys are better off 
Remember it all depend son income as $500 for some might be cheap and for others expensive.

I don't live in an apartment, and I am not sure of the cost, but the cost of rent to live in an apartment costs more than mortgage payments in my city. It is sad and completely backwards. Many people are stuck living in apartments and paying too much and can't buy a house because of bad credit and since they often get behind on rent, this makes their credit even worse and so they are stuck in this situation.
