I love Dogs and wanna keep one with me but..

My mother is not allowing me to keep a dog with me from my childhood because it is really hard to take care of dogs. My home is nearby a road and when I was little I lost two dogs by rode accidents as well, maybe that is the reason for my mom telling like that. Is that really hard to take care of dogs? any solutions for me?
