Just finished watching The Roommate! Felt i just had to type up something. I mean this has to be the umpteenth time that a mentally disturbed individual has been portrayed as the main protagonist. Honestly, the very people who deserve every little kindness and understanding we can spare are being treated with most disrespect and crassness! I can understand the attraction and the ease with which the whole storyline comes together but such a portrayal is damaging for the individuals who are genuine sufferers. Makes them out as freaks when the very purpose of counseling is to bring them back to normality. I am find it surprising that no one has taken notice or perhaps it takes a fellow sufferer to care. There are so many other amazing, inspiring stories just waiting to be told and but instead for some cheap entertainment we get this rubbish churned out!! Creating this very ridiculous stereotype just for your benefit is criminal as it makes the whole environment hostile for the patient. Its time this exploitation of the mental disorders be stopped and the patients be portrayed in a light helping in alleviation of their predicament! But seriously am I really the only one to care?????????

Hi! I have not had the opportunity to see the soap opera, you have mentioned. However, I feel that portraying a mentally disturbed person in a serial/soap/movie should not be looked down upon or taken otherwise.I think the portrayal is meant for those, who are physically fit and yet keep crying or complaining that they have nothing much in their life. Normal people should feel blessed and should feel contended that there are others in this world, who are less than normal, yet they live their lives. As regards, your point that similar patients feel depressed seeing such depiction, may be right to some extent. To my mind similar patients should better not see such portrayal.

Your right in way it makes one appreciate how blessed we truly are but in portraying the mentally disturbed as criminals a negative reaction and feeling towards them is generated. It hampers their acceptance into a society making life very difficult!! I just wish all the producers would move on to more productive subjects rather than exploiting some one's deficiency/disability for their personal gain. Thanks for dropping a response and have a good day!

I agree portraying mentally disturbed as distorted/criminal human beings is unfair.

Everyone is a bit crazy but it's about making choices. Forget that roomate, she a crazy psycho. I know it. I'm a certified psycho. Some people never learn no matter. I don't know why but really, that girl needs an exorcism. TRUST ME. Psychos need two things "Peace and Happiness." She needed to live her own life and not live the life of another. Life is a gift yet imperfect cuz of Adam and Eve (original sin). Check St. Paul to verify. If you really care about people, just pray for them. Some people just want to be stupid regardless of their diagnosis.
