These gerbils are NUTS!

The babies keep play fighting with each other. Everyone's resting right now, but earlier they were all going at each other. Now I know for sure that Gerri is pregnant yet again, but these babies aren't weaned yet. One of them was nibbling on solid food earlier, but I haven't seen the rest of them do so yet. I have to get them sexed before I can find homes for them, and only 4 of them will be going, I'm going to have to keep a male and female here in order to separate the parents, if I can. I realize we've gotten ourselves into a real mess with the gerbils, and will go through close to 2 years of mating if I can't put a stop to it soon. We changed both tanks yesterday, they went stir crazy being in a smaller tank while the big ones were cleaned out. Well, I'm looking forward to seeing another litter, not sure how many Gerri will have or what colors the babies will be. Only time will tell.

Makes you wonder what you have gotten yourself into. I would not let anyone be in a cage with anyone else at this rate. I can picture them scurrying everywhere. Maybe they are fighting because the cage is too small.

They've got 2 tanks that they have access to, and tunnels to get into them both. One is a 30 gallon and the other is a 20 gallon tank, so they're pretty big. I think they were just playing with each other, they were all chasing each other around last night. One of them started nibbling on solid food today, so hopefully by the end of the week I can start looking for homes for them.

It sounds like the babies are a real handful! At what age do they normally start eating solid food? It seems like they should have started by now. He might get bored if by himself, but you need to get the male out of there before this next litter is born or it will never stop. I'm sure you will be able to get the babies sexed and weaned soon, but if not, I would still separate the male. I hope you are able to get this taken care of soon. Have a great week!!!
