if you want to exercise without spending a lot, you might try dangling a little piece of cake from a stick in front of your face just out of reach, and then chase it. or, if you'd feel silly doing that, use your own body weight to your advantage - it's free to do sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, squats, and pull-ups.
to save money, you can also make your own weights. if you're the competitive type, have a contest with your friends or coworkers to see who can do the most arm curls with a liter of water. if one liter is too light, move up to a gallon. if you're not the competitive type, you can still use these common items to avoid buying expensive weights.
take the stairs at work. if you work on the tenth floor, get off the elevator on the seventh and walk the rest of the way. get off your local public transportation one or two stops before you normally would or park your car further away than usual and walk quickly to work.
if you want to get serious with your workouts, many towns organize intramural leagues. joining a team is not only a good way to work out; it's also a good way to meet people. some cities also offer free training in preparation for marathons. they recoup the money spent to get you in shape with money from sponsors of the event.
