Agree or Disagree with mandatory co-pay free birth control

I was reading this article as part of affordable healthcare act (USA) http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2011/07/19/138483937/birth-control-without-copays-could-become-mandatory?sc=fb&cc=fp that is hoping that it become mandatory that birth control not come with a co-pay. I guess where I can see it being tricky is people who do not believe in birth control would have to contribute to those who use it. Though in a way to me it's no different than paying your property taxes... it all goes tward this and that and the local school district. My Grandma used to get mad that money went to the school district and she didn't have any kids still in school.

This would help solve two problems: Less unwanted pregnancies and less abortions. I am pro choice but I think other options are more preferable like not getting pregnant in the first place. I use FPEP to get birth control for free but I feel I am lucky to qualify for it and I am really glad that I do so that I can make the choice for myself not to have a child yet.

Everybody should have an option to use birth control as a preventive care option if they so wish.... without having to pay an arm and a leg. My ins no longer covers IUDs and I was so disappointed with this - do you have any idea how much they expected me to pay out of pocket because it wasn't covered? It's not even that I would be disappointed if I got pregnant again - but I'm not TRYING and therefore I do kind of want my birth control to WORK. I love how ins co sit there and actually believe just because someone is not broke means they can afford to pay 900 or whatever - wrong. However, there's also no way I'd ever qualify for any program to get anything reduced cost lol. It's just a royal pain is what it is. I do hope that something does get passed to consider birth control preventive care and then this will all be a moot point. I will even be happy about it when I'm too old to worry about getting pregnant because it will be there to benefit our next generation - as it should be!! Nobody wants kids having babies - and most of the time neither do the kids!

I want to see a situation where my taxes are well utilize for the common good of all. So whatever they introduce, I do not have much say but I can only appeal to the government to use the money to increase the living standard of the people instead of politician embezzling the money into their own bank account. In Nigeria, where I live people pay taxes to the government but there are no good road, affordable housing, free education and employment for the youth.

Roads here are questionable, there is really no 'affordable housing', free education is a joke because while it's considered 'free', there is no such thing, and depending on region, it is impossible some places for teenagers to even GET a job much less keep one while they are in school!

I believe that whoever wants to be birth control should get it free. Then this will cut down on unwanted pregnancies and allow people to choose how many and when they have their children. I think tax money goes to all different public services so that is a very good idea. In my home country we have the National Health Scheme. Since my disabled son was born I have found out it is a very good thing in place. All the people can get free medical care. This includes free birth control if the person asks. Many people don't ask and simply buy birth control themselves. I don't agree with abortion and giving free birth control helps cut down on ladies having an abortion when they have an unwanted pregnancy. I am all for making less abortions happen.

I have another reason for wishing I had used birth control. I found out on researching the subject after my first round with ovarian cancer that if I had used birth control to prevent ovulation that I might have had lesser risk of having the disease (not totally preventing it but at least decreasing the risk), but I never considered using it because I was never sexually active and I always thought that was the only use for it. I don't know if I would put the chemicals or devices into my body as they have their own risks, but I wouldn't deny someone else the chance to decrease their risks because they can't afford to pay for them either.

I think over all it would be cheaper to pay for someone else's birth control than it would be to pay the welfare, food stamps, medicaid, and other government aids to raise the thousands or millions of unwanted kids that are born everyday. Perhaps if birth control were free there'd be fewer abortions, child neglect, child abuse, missing and murdered children, and people using government assistance for help.

I don't think birth control should be free. If you don't want to get pregnant either pay the 25, 30 or however much for the birth control or don't do the naughty.

Those same people that don't believe in contraception are paying for abortions with their taxes, too. I don't like that but I can't do anything about it except figure that the odds of my personal money in the big pot paying for killing a baby are pretty small. Same with birth control. I'm for free birth control, although I wish it wasn't something the government had its hands into. Providing birth control will mean more young people can start a life, get educated, and choose to have children when they are ready. Taking away the co-pay will make it more accessible to them. I just wish the gov't would keep its hands out of our health concerns, nothing good every comes of the gov't controlling our personal lives.

Seems like everything is taxed today and here healthcare is not free. I am all for the no copay deal when it comes to birth control and hope it does help instead of the many do not use it then later decide to get abortions. I do know some people with health insurance who think that abortion is a contraceptive. As far as this being mandatory I am okay if as I mentioned it can prevent other from doing so. But the government somehow seem like they are controlling a great deal today and have a great mess with the healthcare system here.
