Here in the UK it is 12.15am and I am starving, but what should I eat?
They say that you shouldn't eat too soon before you go to sleep, but I find that if I try to sleep when I'm hungry then I have a harder time then normal falling asleep. I just want something that will fill me up and leave me satisfied to breakfast.
Does anyone find there are particular foods that help them to fall asleep or keep them awake? Maybe I should eat something to help me to fall asleep, but please don't anyone suggest Horlicks, Oveltine or hot chocolate. Firstly I don't like any of them, and I'm hungry not thirsty.
Many thanks

Try eating some turkey. Turkey contains l-trytophan an essential amino acid with a documented sleep inducing effect.

I always have a bowl of my favourite cereal. Either that or I make a few pancakes or biscuits (cookies to the US tribe). Invariably I find that, by the time they're in the oven, the craving has worn off.
And the cookies get burnt (sigh)
Pashwiri naan - that's a good one. Fills you up and sends you off to sleep. Keep a few in the freezer.

The one thing I don't like doing at night is using the oven. I remember once deciding to make some cheese on toast, luckily in the oven rather then the grill. I fell asleep with the oven on and awoke about 2 hours later to find burnt cheese on burnt toast. Imagine if I'd put the grill on, I would have burnt the house down.

I don't eat biscuits as I stopped buying them years ago. I'd buy a packet of biscuits for both me and my boyfriend and he'd eat them all himself, so I just stopped buying them. I only ever have cereal bars in when I'm working as there a great snack for when I'm sat in front of a computer, but as I'm currently out of work there isn't any in the house.

Let me just start off by saying hot chocolate is really for cold days. Basically, for when you want to come inside to warm up after being out in the cold. You drink hot chocolate if you don't feel like eating soup. I would say eat anything you have on hand that is not too heavy. Try chicken nuggets with hot sauce. I haven't had frozen nuggets in a while and I've been wanting to eat some for quite some time.

I'm also hungry. I don't even know what to eat myself. My dad's house is just so dirty.

Instant noodle, a quickie that might help you a lot. Although there is no scientific proof that instant noodle will help you sleep easily. But at least, you can make your stomach full, and you can got a good night sleep for tonight though. I hope that you have a great night, tonight.

Try fixing yourself a nice sandwich with whatever you have in the fridge . Usually when I'm hungry at night, I do that or I just munch on some cookies with a nice cool glass of milk. But yeah i don't think too much sugar is good right before sleep but who cares, I don't care about that when I'm hungry hehe!!

I am the same exact way!!! If I feel hungry before I go to bed, I simply will not be able to fall asleep.
I certainly could not afford to continue eating so close to my bedtime due to the gaining weight factor.
I know everybody says turkey...blah blah it does not really work.
Personally, the fruit or yogurt never did it for me either.
After much flavorful research, I discovered that the best food to eat is cucumbers!
Seems rather odd, but they are nice and cold. I add a little salt and pepper and sometimes some ranch dressing for more flavor. It really hits the spot of satisfaction and is surprisingly filling.
Give it a try and let me know if it works!
