how is amazons affiliate program?? is it really worth it?? thanks for reading

I recently just started a blog and looked into Amazon`s affiliate program, They Promise to give you 15% of each sale that they receive through links from your website. So basically one of Amazon`s little widgets is an "Amazon Search Box", From what I read if someone searches through your website, blog or whatever and just so happens to make a purchase your entitled to 15% of the sale. I will be the first to admit I am new to the entire thing, So I really am hoping for some good advice regarding this. My ultimate goal is to get accepted into googles adsense program , But I feel as if I tried to get approved right now it would not work out in my favor. My quick couple of questions are the following, Does Amazon have a similar approval type thing and if so how difficult is it to be approved. If anyone reads this and is currently using Amazon`s Affiliate Program... What do you guys think of it so far? As I said before I`m doing a blogging website through Blogger. Any tips and tricks (legal) to promote your website would be very very much appreciated. Basically any information you could give would be very very much appreciated, So Thank You In Advance.
