Uranium in Andhra Pradesh

Uranium has reportedly been discovered in Andhra Pradesh. Some experts say that this is, as of this time at least, the biggest deposit in the world. The macro and micro economics is apparent and predictable. India pins a lot of hope on nuclear energy to provide at least 25% of its energy needs by the year 2050. She has just started her 25th nuclear power plant and intends to build 30 more until 2050. The uranium, or at least the proven reserves, can provide part of her total requirements for raw materials for nuclear energy generation. They say that the uranium is low grade. Hmmm..... It makes me wonder how this will affect the armaments and nuclear balances, international relationships, geopolitics and security situation in that part of the world.

Your comment is true, Friend Legitinvest, thank you. India already has 24 Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs), so I think she feels very confident about this means of obtaining energy. She has a large cadre of nuclear scientists and experts. The President of India is a well known nuclear scientist, so it can be said that the nuclear energy option has support at the highest state level.

I too heard of this discovery recently. With the increased emphasis in India on generating nuclear power to feed the vast growing power demand, this could be a boon.(Almost 49000 tonnes) However, these are still early days, and whether or not the potential could be fully utilized remains to be seen. A lot is upto the local and central governments, BARC, and nuclear power generation company(s) in India. " At today''s estimates, the uranium reserves are to the tune of 49,000 tonnes. We expect it to be three-fold of that," Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Srikumar Banerjee told reporters here. Also, it will lessen India's dependency in sourcing supplies from Nuclear Suppliers Group(NSG).

There are only certain types of Uranium that can be used in weapons. Even if this was that kind there are many steps to processing it and many more to make a bomb. What will work to produce energy will not always work to make weapons. Enjoy the prosperity that comes with the discovery and relax.

Let's pray that India will become a rich country and share her wealth with us, Friend Surfer222... hahahah... But I think she is already very wealthy if only she could dispose of the wealth of the maharajahs. Come to think of it, Mahatma Gandhi was very poor, spun his meager clothing, brought his own goat for milking when he visited England so that he would not be a burden ... hahahah... to his host, the royals of England, used pencil to its vanishing point, and yet, he created a big and great nation and continues to influence the world with his teachings and example. Pondered over, Gandhi's life may tend to point out to us and to India that wealth and greatness may lie elsewhere.
