the mice chewed on my cables and i had to request for a new cable wire from the internet server. actually i complained that there was no internet connection. my pc rests down there below the computer table, and near my feet. and when the technical people came, they saw that the cables were cut.. yes, the culprit is either a mice or a rat.
you see i cant see it down under the table. when the operator asks that i do trouble shooting, i just plug and unplug not checking on the wires and cables.
then the technical man said you should do something to protect your processor from mice.
but i have no control over the mice!
tell me if i were you, how would you protect your processor from mice? i already have an idea. but you have to tell me yours first.

I would put the computer up higher and get PVC tubing to cover my cables. That way, the mice cannot get through. My computer and all the wires connected to it, is my life. Boy, am I glad that I don't have mice.

hi inertia,
yes i did place it high up. its now on an upper shelf so that when i sit on the computer chair, it is above my head. had to transfer its location. i guess this would suffice.
thank you for your advise.

1)Put out some traps for the mice/rats.
2)Get your computer off the floor so it will be harder for them to chew the cords.
3)Get the cords off the ground (maybe hung on the wall or something)
3)Find some kind of protective covering for the cords.
IMO the rodent problem should be addressed first then the cords problem. Good Luck =)

Our pet rabbit used to do this: I went through 3 keyboards, 4 mice and 2 sets of headphones while she was alive and running around the computer room on her daily wanderings!
How to stop the mice chewing your cables? You could try taping a cat to the back of your computer...!!
Seriously, though, the best bet is aquarium air pipes. Those thick plastic pipes that are used to pump air into the aquarium are brilliant for cable protection: just slit them open down one side and feed the cable in. They're too wide for rice or mats... er... mice or rats to get their teeth round.

hi spike,
taping a cat to the back of the computer!!
first thing i did was move the cpu on a higher location. so now the computer table is vacant below and so i can prop up my feet without worrying that i might accidentally kick the computer voltage regulator and the cpu. problem now is i will have to get rid of the computer table .. but where do i place the keyboard and the monitor? will have to find a way now.
guess i will try that aquarium air pipe if what i did now will not be effective.
thank you.

If you have mice chewing on your cables, you must resolve the rodent problem. Unless the mice you speak of are pets, they'll do more then just harm your cables. They cary illness and can infect food and other more important things. Set traps use poisins, and get rid of the mice all together. If they are pets, get a more secure cage they can't easily escape from and ensure they have plenty of food. Mice only chew things when they're looking for food to eat. And a mouse isn't going to know a cable isn't "food". To them almost everything is "food".

hello kay,
i got a pet dog but is now very old and likes to keep on sleeping all the time. it used to act as my cat before. but since she is going 12 years old now, she is just too lazy to chase the mice.
we poison the mice here but i guess due to the close knit houses in the neighborhood, it is very difficult to eradicate.

I think the best option would be to make sure that you check your computers regularly. I once had this problem. The solution I thought about was not to keep it attached to the wall. I make a room between my computer table and the interior walls, so that I can check it from time to time. I do sometime open the CPU cabinet as well to clean it and get rid of dusts and spider web. You know recently one of my friend went out for a vacation leaving his computer system as it was. Upon returning, to his disbelief and surprise, his computer system didn't work. I was approached. I tried most of the advanced trouble shooting. But it was obvious the hard-drive had given in. When we checked the hard disk; Guess what!!! it was full of tiny ants!!! Yes, the ants have had nice party time while my friend was busy with his own adventure and fun!!!

hi chhetp,
my computer table used to be attached to the wall. actually it is in the far corner hence no activity could be done there except when one uses the computer and goes online. i get to the unit 3 x a week but the cable remain where they are, almost touching the ground.
i have changed its location now although it is still in t he corner, the computer chair is the one touching the wall. this way i can see the cables much easily.

hi donald,
no garbage around here. got clean surroundings. only the house space is limited. mice, they are just too wise to eat the food on the trap. some are trapped but the very small ones. the bigger ones needs to be poisoned.
