Why do we do whatever we do if after all we have to die and go empty handed?

Friends,
Isn't it like making home of sand on a sea sore that is destined to vanish without its trace? Whatever we do and achieve in this life is lost one day and it happened with billions of people but still we are busy night and day and we want to achieve so many things in this life. Does this really makes sense. After we have sufficient subsistence to survive happily why do we keep busy ourself demanding more and more ?

We do what we do here to make it ourselves comfortable. While we live we want to have a comfortable life that is why people work (too) much.
We also do the things we do to feel valuable. This means we fight for a good cause because we believe it is the right thing to do, this feels rewarding for you, eases the mind.
We do what we do to leave a print of our life to the people left behind. We try to create good memories so we will never be forgotten.
We do what we do just because we want to, no reason just for the fun of it.
When it is time to die and you look back at your life and realise you had a full good life, you can die in peace with nothing in your hands but a heart full of memories.

Hi Zax340,
Not everyone wants more and more. I don't think you do and I don't either.
Then, you don't disappear without a trace. Your traces exist as per your contribution to society. Shakespeare, Lennon & McCartney, VanGogh..their traces are still there.
I think what you want to ask is why do we do what we do because it is destined to happen anyway? My answer will be -imagine a dice game or a snakes & ladders. Your aim is to go from square 1 to square 100. You can go in two throws, three throws or in 100 throes. We do what we do to make our journey better. A Mercedes is better then a cycle, right?
But then, suppose I am destined to write what I did in my lot-then I am a zombie. If you were a comics fan, then you will understand the craze for comics when we were kids..Archie, Donald Duck, Superman..etc etc. These comics are drawn by us 4 dimensional entities(time is considered with L,B,H) for our enjoyment. Perhaps some 6 dimensional entity is writing us as a comic or a novel...Say, he is pissed off at his wife and erases you in anger directed at his wife. You die here but the 6D man and his wife kiss and make up...
There are possibilities galore...my friend. My advise is don't take it seriously or u may go crazy-develop a ultraweird sense of humour! That helps
