Unsure about Torchwood's new American twist.

I would definitely describe myself as an avid Dr Who and Torchwood fan, but I have to say I'm not 100percent sure about the direction it's going in with this new series in the US (starting with the episode Miracle Day) although I thought the episode was good, I'm not sure if it lives up to the expectations I had for it.
Many British TV shows end up being Americanised, The Office (which was not a UK series I particularly liked) and Life on Mars are two other examples. In addition to my slight disappointment that Torchwood has been moved to the US when so many have come to associate it with the Welsh city of Cardiff, this process does spark my slightly cynical side in which the cliché of an American CIA/ FBI officer comes in and comes to the UK and is seemingly automatically of a higher authority than anyone in the UK (when quite clearly the (even extremely downsized) Torchwood team would be able to run circles around the FBI/ CIA.
I'm sure this discussion will create some form of debate in favour of the US version, but I will watch with cynicism and wait to make my ultimate judgement. :)

I was rather disappointed with the story Miracle Day. Torchwood has proved to be an excellent programme, and I particularly like the way that it was created as a spin off from Doctor Who without changing any of the previous background to it. Sadly, Miracle Day has not lived up to the usual standard of Torchwood.
A great deal of the story remained unsatisfactorilly explained and far too much seemed like guesswork to justify the episodes. If they were unable to supply better explanations for much of the story then I feel that they should never have produced it in the first place.

Many had this worry but ratings will win out in the end. Children of Earth did excellent in the Sates and well deserved too, it was brilliant. Miracle Day is slower and I guess taking a new direction, I am warming to it but in saying that it does not have the same charm as the stand alone episodes, I just hope they might revisit that format some time in the future with the new direction.

I agree, but on the whole, I am hopeful, just because if Torchwood is on the screen, then there's hope it will continue.
I think its such a powerful show that its a shame to lose it just because it is expensive.
I hated Children of Earth because it did seem to finish off the program (not because it killed off people like some of my friends.)
Besides, the rift is still there in Cardiff, is UNIT supposed to be taking care of it now?
