It is so cheap to home can all your fritus and veggies. I do this during summer months. I make all my jams and jellies for the winter, I can tomatoes for the winter and any other veggies I have in my garden. Then all year long I have fresh canned veggies and jams to eat. Does anyone else can their foods still? I learned this growing up and have always kept this practice in our home. We eat healthier and feel so much better. I do not like canned foods in the store. I think they turn bad so quickly and the rust on the cans after they sit and you have forgotten about them. When I can I use up all the canned foods during the year and in the summer start over again. I feel much safer canning my own foods. How do you feel abuot this one?

this is one of the many things i would love to do but never get around to. though that's probably just as well, as i am not a very good cook. i like reading cooking books though, and i have seen many recipes for preserving food in jars but i didn't know it was still possible to can something yourself. i have to find out more, it sounds fascinating.

I make my own jams and jellies but that´s about all I dare do as canning goes. I prefer to freeze the veggies after dumping the in boiling water. Then I placee them in plastic bags and take out as much as I need when I cook. It´s handy for me, because I live alone, but many people come to visit. So depending on the guests is what I will get out and what I will do. I also prepare tomato sauce and pesto and freeze them for pasta. I don´t buy much canned food in the store. They are expensive, the veggies are uneatable to my taste and in my country fresh fruit is a lot less expensivethan the canned product. The only cans I buy are tuna in water, condensed milk once in a while and that´s about it.
