Do you bake cookies?

How many Mothers spend time to bake a batch of cookies for their children. Home made cookes are so cheap and a lot better for your kids. I think they will thank you if you took the time to do this. The smell of your home will really bring them running. Plus it is a good time to help your children learn how to cook. How many of you still cook and have your children help you?

I bake cookies once in a while. When the gradchildren were smaller, I invited then for a Christmas cookies session. I made the dough (they had their piece though which they turned into a sort of chocolate dough), baked them and then proceeded to turn the huse upside down with the decorations. It was fun although the house had to the seeped and vacuumed later on.
Now That they are old, I make oatmeal cookies for myself (healthy and easy( and they grab a handful when they come to visit.

I have a 5 and an 11 yo grand daughters. I have had them baking since age 2! I;ll never forget the 11 yo one at age 4...she had the recipe for sugar cutouts memorized! And other than the oven parts...she did it all! THen I taught her how to make homemade chicken nuggets..she called them squid and other than the deep frying..she did it all..even touched raw meat!!! She loved it! So yeah...teach the kids...not only do they learn...but we have alot of fun teaching them!

We surely do. We also feel their age in part when we are playing with them as it´s not only teaching. And we are bonding which is as important as the rest.

I'm a grandmother now, and I still bake cookies from scratch. I prefer them over store-bought ones. I do believe that they are healthier because there are NO preservatives, no artificial colors, and I know exactly what goes into them. My girls still enjoy my homemade cookies, as well as their children. The one grandson is 8 and has been helping me stir up cookie batches for years now. Not only does he learn how to cook and bake, but it also gives him impromptu lessons on fractions, as well as reading. I think it's a great tradition, and besides being good, it teaches them so many other things! Have a great day grandmasimpson!

Store bought cookies are getting really gross these days! THeyhave so much junk in them, saturated fats and all...they are just not worth eating. I mean okay if you have just 2 every other day..but that's no fun! I don't bake in the summer months, but in the winter... I do alot. This year I finally have a large kitchen instead of a tiny counter (in an apt) and am looking forward to baking...however...always a problem...now no one to bake them for! I can't eat them all!....well I COULD, b ut I know better. But I am looking forward to sending them to my kids too..even tho theylive kind of close. Baking is a great tradition and beats store bought any day of the week!

I still cook and bake. We mostly only bake cookies around christmas time. We do brownies and other snacks though. I cook supper most nights of the week and sometimes they like to help cook. It's hard with three of them wanting to help and everyone fighting over which job they get to do and whose turn it is.

Yes I can see this one. I had 5 children but the boy never wanted to cook. It was only the 2 girls and when one was in the kitchen the other stayed out. I never had a hard time with the two of them. But it is good that you still cook at home. I like this so much.

I love to bake and smell! I am a baker from way back. But now with just two of us...baking a whole recipe isn't the way to go. But then I figured...mix up the bath and drop the balls of dough, freeze them and then put them into a baggie. Then when I want a few fresh baked cookies, I take 6-12 out of the freezer, bake them in my toaster oven and I got fresh baked cookies! This was great during the summer when it is to hot to bake and I just hate store cookies! you can do this with rolled cookies too...roll into a log and freeze and then slice and bake what you want.
I am anxious to start baking this winter. Only me to eat them but I look forward to sending them to my kids!

I love to bake pretty much everything. My child is still a bit too young to really learn how to bake, but she does love the end product. Currently, the oven is off until the heat wave breaks, everything we are eating is either cooked on the stove top or sandwiches because the a/c is already having a hard time keeping up with the outside heat.

I can understand this. Summer months make it hard to bake. The oven sure does heat up the home. Try to BBQ outside this one is great and will not heat up your home.

Hi, Grandmasimpson,
Baking is a bonding session between my six-year-old son and me. I let him measure and mix the dry ingredients. It is not only fun but educational as well since I am able to orient him about fractions. The smell of freshly baked cookies is very appetizing. However, I have to look for another cookie recipe as I have been baking the same recipe from over a year.

This is so sweet. I think you are a wonderful Mom. If we could add recipes here I would do this one for you. I have so many recipes that are wonderful and I really enjoy cooking. I am sorry but I think we can not do this here.

I have alot of recipes for cookies and other things that I have made over the years and oddly enough, have fond memories of. I am putting them together in a recipe book for the kids. Well,,, I did that already about 10 years ago, and gave one to my daughter for her wedding gift...a daughter that hates to cook anything!...but now with 4 grand daughters... I am working on putting a new one together. I put the recipe and then the fond memory I have of it. Like one is of my son... the cookies were dipped in powder sugar. He loved them. once...he sneaked in and got some without asking... he came out of the kitchen with powder sugar all over his mouth. I knew what he'd done, but played along..teaching him not to lie..you will always be found out....I asked what he was doing... he said nothing. I asked...why is there white stuff all over his mouth? He was shocked... of course he didn't know that the cookies would do that and realized he'd gotten caught! But that was the little blurb that I put on the page with this recipe. Fun memory for him...great cookies for all!

I enjoy baking if I am in the mood and yes, I do still make homemade cookies at times. I also enjoy making brownies as it seems that we eat alot of them. I think tomorrow I am going to make homemade blueberry muffins.
My daughter does help me with much of the cooking and she should be really good at it when she gets older.

I do. I love baking cookies for my children. They love chocolate chips and oatmeal cookies. They are always ready to help me when I baked cookies for them. Yes, I agree that baking cookies are more cheap and healthy than buying it on shops.

Hello there! I wish i could bake. I used to help my sister when she bakes before. I don't have an oven too but I would definitely want to try baking. I cook especially now that I have a canteen business. My kids doesnt help because sometimes, I like working alone. I don't want to be disturbed most of the time and I want to work on my own. My mind is busy when i am in the kitchen because I am thinking ways to put a twist on my cooking. But if I am cooking for our own dishes, my youngest usually helops me like peeling onions or garlics. it is our bonding time and when we are in kitchen, he shares his activities in schools. Welcome here in mylot! :)
