does anyone else have a shrine in their home? who is it to, and what do you do to decorate it and make it special? I have a shrine to Papa Legba in my kitchen, and it completely changes the mood as you walk into my home. it reminds me to mark my honour to the Lwa, in an area I pass often.

We've an image of Jesus in the living room, infront of which we pray. Sometimes we receive from the parish, a Virgen who stay for a week in the house and then she is taken to another one in the neighborhood.

is this a figure rather than a person? where does the tradition of the touring virgin come from? it sounds like a nice way of keeping something going in a community

The Jesus image is a color print blessed in the church by parish's priest. The touring virgin is a tradition born from the church to improve devotion among the faithful. :)

I have a shrine of past relatives. My mom and grandmother mostly. Pictures of them in their youth, objects they had, such as that. I don't really call it that but I guess that is what it is. They meant so much to my daughter and I and we think of them every day. When people come into our home we share them with them through their pictures and stories. Memory is so important.

that's lovely. if I find a good and appropriate space for it, I would like to set up an ancestor shrine of my own.

It is truly lovely. And each time I walk past it I can feel the energy from them flowing around me.

I guess it has been a tradition to keep a shrine in our home. It's not that we are worshiping images but just a reminder that God is closer. I would really want one outside the garden - a grotto. Now that will be really handsome, don't you think? But, first ... a garden :)

We have no shrines in our home, but it seems a good ide to me, for remembrance.
