Ok guys, starting today I have decided on getting off my lazy butt and doing some exercise. Actually I just did some intense work out and some dancing before i couldn't take it anymore and I quit! So I took a shower and now I'm on mylot trying to respond to some discussions but I'm feeling extremely drowsy. It's not my time to go to sleep as of yet but why am I so drowsy?? Does working out make you sleepy??

Maybe your body was overworked with the work out you did that it needs to adjust and rest it out as soon as possible. I do experience getting sleepy and tired whenever I get home from a very busy day. Maybe because the workload stress applied on the body was not the same as the normal load it takes in a day. Just my opinion on it though.

Hi Girl!
It depends on yourself. Like me I don't feel sleepy after did some exercise. Maybe your body is getting familiarize with the activity that perhaps you have not done for ages..(^^)That is why you feel tired and sleepy. But don't worry you will get used to it and it won't make you drowsy anymore.(^^)
Pssttt!! I think you should just go to sleep Girl!(^^)

Could it be possible that you over worked out? Exercise although beneficial do sometimes take a toll on our body and sleep is one way the body repairs itself. It is also advisable to eat healthy and take vitamin supplements when you plan to do a strenuous workout

I think i might have over done it. coz right now my stomach and arms are kinda achy. and even while exercising i couldn't keep up. i just thought it was because i hadn't worked out for so long. anyway i'll be off to sleep in a short while now.
have a great weekend and thanks for responding.

When we workout, our body must become active after doing so. Yes there are times that I get tired and sleepy after workout, and most of them happens if overdo it. I see that you have fatigued yourself working out because you did it intensely. I guess 30 minutes of working out should do it.

it does feel exhausted after you work out. But the reason why you feeling sleepy because you are not in a routine to workout. When you resume working out after a long time or start working out then initial few days you feel sleepy because you are not adjusted to doing so much of exercise. Gradually, once you get into a routing, your body will adjust and you will be feeling as fresh after your workout and then you can poke as many people in here.

I've been going for daily walks and I feel invigorated when I return. I'm on medication that makes me want to sleep but the walking seems to get me past that for a while at least.
It sounds like there is something lacking in your diet maybe because working your muscles and increasing your breathing is going to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing...this is energy. You should not feel sleepy.

Hey thanks for the response. Well I might have over done it a bit and also, I haven't been working out for like months so those two must be the reasons. Anyway I worked out just a while ago and I do feel tired still today. My body isn't getting used to it it seems. I hope it does soon though. Thanks and have a good day!!

I think that working out does help make you feel drowsy. It usually takes a while to wind down after working out, but then it is easier to fall asleep. I know my neighbor takes his daughter to the pool to wear her down so that she will sleep and if it works for kids, it should work for adults as well. As far as making me sleepy, I am always like that, even when I first wake up in the morning. I only recently started working out in the pool (it is too hot to do anything else). I will have to wait and see. Have a great week!!!

Actually, I just go in 4 feet of water so it is only up to my chin. I will sometimes lay on my back and just float, but most of the time I just walk or run in place in the water and let the water resistance provide the exercise. You don't need to be in anything more than water up to your chest so you don't need to worry about drowning. If you cramp up, you can just stand still for a few minutes while it passes. This way, you are able to stay cool and not put as much pressure on your knees and feet since the water helps hold you up as well.

Thanks for the response. I too have recently have started working out after a long pause. Hmm working out in the pool sounds like a good idea but sadly I can't swim and will probably drown. Anyway I am working on that too, my friends have promised to teach me a few thing. Thanks and you have a wonderful week too

Maybe you went all out on the workout and that's why you feel drowsy. I know after I do an intense workout I feel weak and tired, don't even have the engine to wash off the sweat in the shower.

Working out has a strange effect on me - it totally depends what time of the day it is when I work out! If I work out early in the morning, then it actually helps me to feel energised and awake for the day - but usually by the time the evening comes, I'm exhausted and sleep amazingly well! If I work out later in the day, though, I just feel exhausted and am happy to climb straight into bed!

I cannot exercise at the mornings at all. My body starts hurting all over. So the besttime for me to exercise is the evenings, not too late in the evening though. Anyway thanks for responding. i just think my body is not used to all this exercise after all these months of total rest.

After working out, sometimes I feel drowsy, but on other times I feel very hyper. It depends really. But after intense work out, somehow my energy is really pumped up. There's an adrenalin rush! So I just want to keep doing something and be busy. But of course there are times when my body can't take it anymore so the drowsiness kicks in.

Well true as I use to feel that before too. well not actually an adrenalin but nothing. I used to be completely perfect as nothing happened when I used to do workouts regularly, but yeah my muscles felt great. ANyway I hope I can get that feeling again soon.
Thanks for the response and have a wonderful day!!

Hi Thatgirl,
Usually exercise boosts my metabolism and gives me energy. Maybe if you did a lot more than what you are used to then it could make you drowsy I'm thinking. Maybe if you move around a little, it'll help perk you up? Maybe a ice cold glass of water would help rehydrate and boost your energy back up?? Or possibly it could be that you just need the sleep and a little power nap would help you out.

hey thanks for the response. I think i did a bit of overwork and that might have been causing me to be that way or maybe my body's not coping coz I haven't been doing all these for months now. Anyway I just did today's set and I am drowsy again. Oh god how long till I feel nothing like I used to!! :D
Have a wonderful weekend!!

I try and exercise every day and I always get sleepy afterwards. I take a nap most days, and if I don't have time for a nap I don't exercise. I have to exercise first thing in the morning or I won't. Taking a shower probably relaxed you enough to add to your fatigue, and it sounds like you did an intense workout. I am about ready for a nap myself. Sweet dreams!

I can't workout in the mornings. My body aches all over even when I try to stretch
Anyway it seems to be quite natural then wanting to fall asleep after a workout, it had never happened to me so I though I was doing something wrong.
Anywya thanks for the response and have a wonderful weekend!!

Firstly I am glad you are working out this is so beneficial for so many reasons but mostly to continue to be active and healthy.
I am the opposite when it comes to working out, I get so energized afterwards that I would be to awake and alert to be able to sleep. What I do is first thing in the morning after about 1/2 hour my breakfast, I exercise and it energized me so I have a feeling all day. I use to do it in the evenings and then could not sleep as it would make me way too alert.
Maybe since you just started again it will be a bit before you get into a routine, so maybe soon it will cause your body to react differently. I am glad you are exercising.

hehe thanks!! I just kept pushing it further away saying I will start tomorrow, but my tomorrow never came. So i just decided on doing it and did it and to be honest it feels great, a little pain but my body parts just feels so free
I just did today's part too and am feeling drowsy again. It never happened before so i was just wondering if I was doing something wrong. Turns out, like you and most of the mylotters said, my body isn't coping properly!
Anyway thanks for the response and have a wonderful weekend

TAking a shower after exercising would make you feel so relax and tiredness would crept in making you feel drowsy. Especially if you said that you did some intense workout.

I wonder why you are that way. Me, whenever i had an exercise, i am fully awake after. It's as if i am so alive because every part of my body was moved.
As i have read, you shouldn't be exercising 3 hours before you are scheduled to sleep. It will keep you awake after the exercise and you will not sleep at once.
So i am wondering how come with you, it's that way?
