A mentor is someone you develop special connections with, as more than just a friend. They guide you through your career, future, or whatever it is you're pursuing. They have faith and hope in you to succeed and will never lose it. They teach you the right ways of doing things, as well as supporting your own decisions. They're always behind you to catch you if you fall.
A tutor is someone who educates you on a specific subject and only helps you to succeed in it with the best of their abilities. They don't necessarily have to believe in you, they just have to make sure you succeed.

Mentor has a broader scope of help that he can render to a student. Aside from intelligence and skills, he/she is also a parent. He protects, guides and helps you in different manners and situations in life.
On the other hand, tutor is only giving a help for a particular aspect, particular subject and skill.

A mentor leads you to speak on the right track, supports you and helps you further. You have usually a personal connection with the mentor, it is someone who is extra space in your training (not only in school, even what you do in the future after school) interested.

Mentor is like a benevolent supervisor. He'll be happy to assist you in your doctoral thesis. Give references and you point out fallacies. But sit down with you and go over everything point by point with you.
A tutor is someone who sits down with you and if need be cramming what you have not yet understood. Tells you explicitly what you need to kno.

Mentor in mythology:
He is a friend of the hero Odysseus's son Telemachus and protector. When Odysseus is drawn into the Trojan war, he takes the well-meaning goddess Athena from time to time, the mentor figure to watch over Telemachus. Mentor has therefore epic in both male and female characteristics, suggesting an intense and complex relationship between him and his protégé.
A tutor is present at university or college a person who is involved in the education and other mandated lead. This special form of the course is called Tutoriat or tutorial, in which observed the tutor and the students helping with problems intervene. Here the tutor itself can not (yet) be a student.
A mentor can be identical with the tutor, but it does not need to be inevitable.
A tutor will be paid by the university for being a mentor can also work as volunteers, or a family friend, etc.
