...he hated all the bullsh*tting that went on.
Way to go!
If you read the article below it will give you more of an insight into what he means but I love him even more now, especially since he's a northerner like myself. I can well relate to the fact his face "didn't fit" and I know David Tennent is Scottish (the Dr Who after him of course) but he wasn't Scottish in the show was he? I bet he was told to ditch the accent or else!
Anyway, if you don't like the article, it's worth looking at for Mr Eccleston's pic!

I know what you mean. I used to go out with someone who was well into Star Trek..so much so that it had been known for him to wear er..Picard's outfit (well the top) and I just went like thisat him. Fortunately, he didn't go out in public wearing it but, not surprisingly, our relationship didn't last long!

I only found out he did this sort of thing when he moved in. Ain't it always the way? It was at Mum's house so you can guess what she thought of him!

Goo for him! They thought they could bully a Northerner? They thought since they were paying him , they Owned him? No Way! I'm a Yank and even I Know that isn't true! I'm glad he left. No amount of money is worth being that stressed! Ta for sharing the article. Cheers!

Oh, he stands by his principles alright and I don't think he has EVER done something that wasn't worthwhile acting-wise.
I love him to bits, he's ace!

I think many actors can't afford to lave roles because they need the money. I was surprised when he was selected for the role, but glad he had the chance to be the doctor. I have seen a lot of different actors over the years.

The problem with Doctor Who is that it is a show with too much history. Even though actors can make it their own, it is the same character, so it has to have the same basic structure and only a little tweaking. That is why I admire Eccleston, he gave an edge to the character, but it was also a little different to the other Doctors who were always pleasant and old fashioned, with the same line being followed by Tennant (he wears tweed) and Smith (bow-tie) unlike him, who wears leather and is always dressed in dark colours. The thing with backstage, is that it is notoriously stressful especially on a show this big, too many deadlines and then stress travels, the producer complains with the director, the director can have a field day he complains with everyone, then everyone else complains with everyone else, just because shows look easy and fun to make doesn't mean they are. I can see him getting annoyed and the fact that he was not enjoying himself added to his frustration, which after a while probably made the desire to leave all the more poignant.
He has worked a bit in the US doing film. Raymond Calitri in Gone in 60 seconds where I assume he uses his or and adaption of his accent to be easier to understand is one of the first big budget films, depending on how the new GI Joe does it could be another franchise he works on maybe it is a better fit.

Whatever he has done in the past or chooses to do in future, I know it will be good. As for the Dr Who part..it's their loss!
I thought he was wondrous in it!

Yeah, well, the Beeb has always told the actor who plays the Doctor to give him a upper accent and no too regional...
but Eccleston quit because of RTD and the "gay" thing...
actually, Eccleston is just a quitter, he quit Heroes after one season too

Well, we love him over here. He's a national treasure and I've seen him in LOADS of home-grown, brilliant dramas, so there!
What on earth is RTD?

I read the article the other day. Christopher Eccleston definitely brought Doctor Who back with a bang and revived everyone's interest in the show again. I thought he was brilliant or to coin his phrase "Fantastic" and he was. I would have loved to see him do another series but I can see his reasons for quiting, more respect for him

I saw him in loads of things before Dr Who and I agree he made it more accessible, which is probably what he was told off for (bit snobby aren't they the Dr Who clan) but whatever it is he brought to the part, it certainly worked.

Hiya Janey,
Yes I have seen this Actor in the three loose Episodes that I saw of Dr.Who as they have not taken it off altogether you see.
But well yes I did enjoy it whilst I could watch it.
There are almost always tensions in a lot of Programs on Television.
One we have here is an afternoon thing and they are always falling out with each other.
Yes he is very good looking too I liked him from only the bit I saw of him.
I think that he was brave to give it all up for the sake of his principles. Probably they must have been making it difficult for him to work like he wanted to.
Pity that as well as I would have looked for him on youtube which I will do once I get the sound Card put in the other has gone west so now we have a very silent Computer (grin).xxx

I'm glad you think he's cute too..not a bad actor either lol.
If you get the chance, try to find a drama called The Shadow Line..it's the latest offering with our Christopher in it.
Do you remember a drama series called Edge of Darkness from the 80s? Some say it's as good as that. To be honest, I don't but it's close to it!
