How Did You Meet Your Long-Term Partner?

It's no secret that I met John online. We "chatted" on the telephone as well besides typing away on our keyboards on Yahoo Messenger. This went on for about 3 months before John came to Blackpool in order to pick me up and bring me back to Carlisle. He would do this every weekend for a while. Then I decided it was making him too tired (200 mile round trip) so I took the train instead, straight after work in Preston to spend the weekend here in Carlisle..then I'd get the train on a Monday morning, into work!
This went on for about 18 months before I moved here permanently..to a job that didn't work out..but "That's Life!" as they say.
My Mum and Dad used to live on the same street in Blackpool. On that same street Dad whistled at Mum and said to his mate, "I'm going to marry that woman one day" a bit like David Beckham when he saw Posh for the first time in The Spice Girls on telly. He said exactly the same thing, "I'm gonna marry that woman one day!"
I guess the actual meeting between Mum and Dad happened in the local pub, where EVERYONE would go for a night out..including Mum's Dad, who my Dad knew quite well.
The rest is history and I'm so glad they're still together after getting married in 1965.
I hope me and John last that long!

Well, you obviously don't have one so don't have to answer but I respect that totally. In fact, I envy you at times!

I didnt know you had met John online!! Good for you!!
I met my 32yrs partner while I was married . Its a long story but after being married 6 months, my ex started drinking saying that now that we were married, he could do what he wanted.......NOT!!
On June 24th, 32 yrs ago, my ex was gone for the weekend with one of my brothers and I was alone all weekend, so my other brother came to pick me up to go downtown for some partying since it was a Holiday here. He was going out with a girl at the time (they're divorced now) and she had brought her brother along......well....we hit it off and spent the weekend together.
We went out together for a whole year before I told my ex that I wanted a divorce. He was a guy from the "wrong side of the track" so to speak and he threatened to set my parents house on fire if I left him. After a while he calmed down and said he'd give me a divorced only if I said I was guilty of adultery (which I was ) We had my cousin for lawyer, it took about 5 minutes in court and I was FREEEEE!!!

My wife and I met through a work mate of mine in 1996. His brother in law owned one of the local butcher shops in the shopping centre and we went in there one day to say hi and were introduced to the girls working the counter. That was the first time that I saw my wife. There was a hairdressers next to the butcher shop too and another work mate went in there regularly to get hair cuts. The next week, somehow we all ended up going out to the pub together as a big group.
A whole heap of us from the panel shop that I worked at, a few of the girls and blokes from the butcher shop and a few girls from the hairdressers. We all had a great night and ended up as three couples. I got together with one of the Butcher shop girls and my two mates from work ended up with the hairdressers. I don't think any of us wanted anything serious at the time, but we all ended up in long term relationships out of that night. One couple split up a few years ago, but I think the other guys are still together. Not sure as I have not heard from them in years.

So, did your wife become vegan after working at a butcher's? I've got that right, I take it? She did work in there?
Can't say I'm surprised as I wouldn't want to mess with meat all day, every day and Sir Paul McCartney once pointed out that if slaughter-houses had glass walls...hmmm...there would be thousands of vegans overnight I reckon. I think in Sweden it's part of the curriculum to visit slaughter-houses.
I think I'd be off sick that day!

Yes she did. At the time, we loved the fact that she worked with meat as we used to get the best steaks for free or really cheap. But then over time after she had been out of the industry for a few years, we moved away from meat. She is not currently vegan as she eats fish from time to time. Usually smoked salmon which she will have with a salad. Yep, if all people took the time out to actually 'meet their meat' then they would give up animal products pretty fast I think.

Me and my girlfriend had been together for almost 2 years now. We've been on and off for the most part of this relationship. She was my classmate in highschool, that's how I met her. I knew then that she also had a crush on me so I courted her but I got busted then because I courted another girl when we were together. Although now, we are going steady and even planned on getting married, I just don't know when because we're both still fixing the financial part of our lives.

That's a good idea if you ask me..sorting out your finances first. There's no rush my friend. I didn't get married until I was 42 so plenty of time yet!

Great story! May we all find the right person to spend our lives with!
As for me, story has reminded me of the BBC series As Time Goes By. Has anyone else seen that series?
I met my future husband in high school and it started out as one of those very special friendships; the kind you can say anything and you'll get an honest answer (even though it's not what you wanted to hear). He graduated in '89 and I in '91 and over the years, we stayed in touch until he moved to Charlotte in 1996. Thanks to a high school Alumni book, I wrote to him and he responded. In 2005, I was on a family trip to Florida and we decided to stop in Charlotte, NC where he lived. The same strong friendship feeling were still there between us so we took it a bit further; I started visiting him for a few days at a time. By 2007, we decided the time was right to move in together and have been together ever since. We've had our rough spots but overall, it has been pretty smooth. Marriage took place in March 2010. :-)
To say the least, I am relieved that this man is a part of my life as it proves you can take control of your life and get it back in the direction you need to put it in.

Thank you! We all deserve some happiness...even if it needs a little nudge now and then.
After I wrote that note, I had to watch an episode of as time goes by. Ever seen it? Netflix has it.

I met Jim online last year, and I felt safe when I first met him so I moved in right away. We've had our problems too, but for the most part we get along really well. I picked him up...something new for me, but we have a lot of things in common. I wish we had met 20 years ago though!

Lucky you--you only wasted two years on a loser--I wasted SEVEN! It took me a long time--I'm not a dater, I prefer relationships, but I did try to go on dates with some of the men I met. It was incredibly difficult for me, so I'm fortunate that I met Jim so quickly after venturing into the dating pool--there were a lot of scary men!

Is that what we call destiny? As for me, I met my soon-to-be long time partner on our school. Yes, we're on the same school back in college. Not bragging but we both are quizzers back then. Interestingly, on a quiz show that we joined, we end up as tied in fourth place. Destiny?

Could be! I'd like to use the word "fate" as, without my computer I would never have met John. If he hadn't been using his eMac at the same time as I was using my PC, our paths would never have crossed..that and the fact my clairvoyant TOLD ME I'd meet someone from Cumbria, the next county to Lancashire. The clue was in his name but I won't tell you that as I don't want to embarrass him lol.

Hi!
What a coincidence! I met Libra online too. We met on a "making friends" website when I had just signed up for several days. We chat with each other on MSN about 1 mounth, and had the first date in the second months. It's about three years passed, we still have a good relationship with each other. Although we haven't married yet, bu I know, it's him!:)

It sounds so filmy but so romantic as well.I have been chatting for long time on different sites and met many people online specially females but I could never meet any of them in real so far.Every time I planed to meet to someone after getting close online, ended up just like that mostly because of the distance.
When I read and hear such real stories about how people meet on internet and they proceed to real life..that makes me curious.wondering ..wish I could also be so daring..to grab someone like that :)keep it up .good luck to u both.

The thing is, neither of us has very good relationships locally so I guess the internet was a natural progression for us both.
You will find somebody one day..but be careful..make sure you take your time in getting to know someone. If it takes a year, it takes a year, nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for your wishes. I have been chatting to a girl online for more than two years but ended up just like that because real life and circumstances dominated..but at the same time I believe its hard to stay away of that attraction towards anyone nice on net and gives you respect and understands you better way..thats the reason again am attracted to a nice girl and chatting with her for more than one and half year.she seems to be good so just wish me luck people .
some day I will also write my story here :)

I had come to work at the yogurt/sandwich shop where Liz already was. We got to know each other there at lunch break and a couple after work togethers. Then after her promotion to assistant manager she was offered the position as manager in one of the owner's stores in Atlanta, which both thrilled her and scared her silly. I was the first she told the 'thrilled' part about and I was, as well, the one who helped her through the scared silly part too giving words of encouragement and, finally, to tell her that if she ever needed help in Atlanta '..just give a call..' and I'd come with my management experience to help out.
This was all in a 6 month period, by the by..
Anyway, she latched on to the idea of me helping out, talked to our manager (a mutual friend) and the next thing you know I've been promoted to assistant manager and am on my way to Atlanta as part of the team.
Once in Atlanta the company wanted us to take seperate apartments and only cross paths at work but Liz talked our manager and our supervisor into letting us get a house together because we only knew each other down south and tho it wasn't obvious at the first of it its gotten rather obvious now..In november this year it'll be 24 years..

Well mine will be a little bit tangled. First let me start by saying that the girl I am with now, I knew 25 years ago. Now, that said, she was going out with my cousin at the time and I knew she liked me but I never crossed the line. I liked her also but it was not the right thing for us to be together at that time. Well, she wound up leaving him and she left the area. I looked for her but could not find her. Then a few years latter I met the woman that I eventually married. We met over the CB radio. I know that sounds old, but they were popular back in the 80's. We talked on the CB and then we met. After that we wound up getting married. Well, long story short, after 17 years of marriage, she left and took the children. I do see my children every other week. Now, remember that girl I mentioned from 25 years ago? Well, we bumped into each other on FaceBook and the rest is history. We are together now and very happy. She is my true soul mate.

I moved on to the new house and my current partner already lived there. After one week there was some party at the house. Then I spoke with him first time. After one month we started living together in one room. After three moths he asked me to marry him. Later we moved out to our flat and since that time almost five years we are together.
