Cost of Cable Television

I remember a time when paying for cable made sense. We paid for cable because we had a plethora of extra channels with NO COMMERCIALS. The reason this is significant is because free television is free because companies pay an insane amount of money to run commercials between shows.
Now, cable costs more than it previously did but commercials now run rampant between our shows and movies. With all this extra money they are getting from commercials, why is the cost of cable increasing? Is there someone out there who can explain this to me?

I honestly do not know why cable costs keep rising. Specially when if you bundle with phone and internet you are paying an average of 100.00 a month
What I can say is my husband and I got rid of the box.
We have expanded basic which gives us 99 channels and 2 free channels included of HBO and 2 free channels of Showtime.
But the way I figure it once you watch a show how many times does it come on AGAIN in one day or in the month?
And we can only watch one channel at a time.
I got netflix just through my Wii no dvds in mail, and have over 10,000 programs to watch for 8.00 a month
I could live without the cable and really cut some bills, but of course the hubby loves to fall asleep in front of the TV so he needs the cable to fall asleep to
