So as I was reading news articles like I do quite often I came across one that really upset me and got me worked up. I was reading about a mother that had lost her child to a drunk drugged up half blind man that ran her child down and then drove away. Not only did I read that I also read that this man had done this same thing 2 other times before. As I read further into the article I was appalled to read that the poor lady who had lost her son was also being charged and would have to spend 2 years in jail. I wanted to know what this woman had done that would get her 2 years considering that the man that had killed her son only got 6 months before he was released. Well she was Jaywalking yep the crime of crossing the street out side of a designated cross walk. Because this drunk drugged up half blind man ran her son down and then drove away like he had just hit a bump in the road. I have to say that the Justice system is broke when the victim of a crime gets more time than the perpetrator of the crime. You can read the article here if you so choose perhaps it will send you on the search of more info like it did me leading me to the petition to sign for the charges to be dropped.

Yes it is getting that way. No justice for the honest. Just recently, my son's ex-wife took him to court to get more child support. This woman literally lays around the house all day...her parents house, cause she won't get a job to support herself or her child. LIterally, if it wasn't for my son's child support (and previous 2 years of alimony) and her parents providing room and board and all for her and hte child...she couldn't support herself muchless the child. Yet the court sided for her and increase the child support $200 a month. And she still won't get a job or an education. And they say she is the best parent for the child to be with. She won't even take care of herself, get an education or a job. She'd be homeless and so would the child if it wasn't for the child support and her parents supporting them both. Yet the courts say she should get more money to "support" the child. It is so wrong. She doesn't even have to be responsible, yet the courts side with her.
Both my kids are in law enforcement and they both say...the legal system is broken. I say it isn't broken, it is just that no one wants to do their job as they get paid whether they do it or not so why make it hard on themselves. No one wants to do their job any more and it is just easier to side with the guilty or the stupid.

She is a bad mom ...she could get a job. She is only there cause she is lazy and has figured out a way to mooch off others. Her mother taught her that. I have no problem with families living together if they must, or finances dictate. My son got laid off while they were married. and they moved in with us for a year until he could get another job..did she get a job? Only a part time to pay for their truck...other than that she was at home. Itold her many times....go back to school..one course a semester and you'll have a degree before you know it. 8 years later...she is no better than she was the day afater graduating high school...but has a daughter to support. She applied for welfare, and qualified for it. Why didn't she go get a job? Cause you have to work to get a job...welfare, you don't have to! Trust me, I try with all...but this one is nothing but lazy and sloppy and that isn't a good mother to anyone. If you don't want to support yourself, you shouldn't be having children.
But my point was...and i did forget to say....the judge himself, literally said, "I don't have time to read the depositions (which were the "evidence" in a custody case). Excuse me? A Judge that doesn't have time to read the evidence? How wrong is that!!!
But she got everything she asked for. Not a single thought to the father who has a job, owns a home, has a family of 2 other kids and is self sufficient and supportive of his family. No, lets give and cater to the lazy moochers who have figured out how to take from others while they just lounge around in front of the tv.

I do feel that no one wants to do their job any more its a shame that its come to that. How ever nothing against you or your son but I have to say that when parents get divorced the only ones that pay are the child. The only advice that I can give for that would be for you son to just pay the amount that the courts have said is appropiate and when the child gets older they will realize how money hungry the mother was and that the money that was supposed to go for the child went instead so that she could stay at home and not work. How ever just because she does not work and lives with her parents does not mean she is a bad mom. There are many countries where familys never move out on their own and it really works well there is not as much child abuse or other crimes on children in these areas due to the fact that the grandparents are there to support the new parents. We in the US are the only country where every one is in such a hurry to grow up and move out.

It is quite interesting sometimes how the Justice system or lack of a Justice system seems to work in this country. I have heard of people getting caught abusing children, including sexually and because it is their first offense, or it has been over the Statute of limitations just getting a slap on the hand and who cares if they reoffend. Personally something has to be done about the way they charge crimes. You would think if you run over a child that would mean Jail time, and loosing of license, etc. Does he personally know someone who pays the Judge off or just lucky?

I agree our justice system needs a over haul. What I think needs to happen is that there are no statue of limitations on crimes against children. In my opinion when you hurt a child in any way you are effectively killing that child. That child that was there before being hurt no longer exists. So why would you put a limitation on some thing that is basically murder or the killing of a child. If people want to be sick and hurt children then they need to be aware that it will be a life sentence. No mercy when it comes to a child. They are our future and need to be protected at all cost.

Tell me something I don't know. In America, sometimes the victim gets more punishment than the perpetrator. It's terrible! :( I remember hearing a story about a boy who killed his family about two years ago. They bring him in from the prison for questioning and they give him Burger King to eat as they wait for his lawyer.

oh thats normal police work. Break them down then build them up make them think they can trust you. Give them something that shows you are in sympathy of their plight. Pathetic but hey it works thats how they get the innocent to confess to crimes they did not commit.

This really sickens me! Our justice system is in need of a major rehaul! It's just like a certain in the news lately woman. I'm not even gonna say her name because I think I might barf if I hear it again! She gets away with basically murder of her little girl. Ok so I don't know if she did kill her but she should at least be charged with child endangerment or something! She was partying while her daughter was missing! I think the justice system should get rehauled because it's just not fair to put someone in jail for something minor for a long time
And then horrible major offenses short with chances to get out early!

I have to agree with you 100 percent. It just seems to me that the real criminals are getting off scott free while the people that commit minor offenses get the book thrown at them. As for that unmentionable woman I feel that she should still spend the rest of her life behind bars for failing to report her own child as missing. I am sorry but if I dont see my child for 30 minutes I start to worry. The last thing I would be doing is partying while my child is missing. So in my mind she did it. She murdered her child and didnt report her missing because she was not missing she knew exactly where her child was, because she killed her. Sick world that we live in when things like that happen.
