Indian Railways and recent accidents.

In recent times, Indian Railways have witnessed some dangerous railway accidents. Investigations show that some of them happened due to negligence on the part of the staffs of the Indian Railways, some were caused due to sabotage by the terrorist outfits and some due to technical faults of the railways. Whatever may be the cause behind; the victims are always the innocent passengers traveling by the Indian Railways. So, what the Indian Railways urgently need to do is to ensure safety to all the passengers without any delay. And if they are unable to do so, it is better for them to declare it openly that if anybody travels by the Indian Railways, he is doing it at his own risk and the Indian Railways will in no way be held responsible for any untoward incidence occurring during any such journey. Am I wrong in my opinion?

It is the most hectic way to travel by Indian railways, i dont think in any other country it would be crowded as much as it is in Indian railways, but Indians have no other option but to travel by Railways because of the increasing traffic on roads, well coming to the discussion, in around last years many accidents have been cause in Railways, the most fearful is the terriost because they can easily take the benefit of the rush no matter how much is security upgraded, apart from that small mini accidents are also caused by passengers like crossing the tracks hanging on doors such thing can cause more havoc. So somewhere Citizens and also the railway authority should come together and sort on this issue, Most probably the Railways delays and the passenger train accident should be take care of. So concluding on the topic the rail authorities should manage things properly to avoid such hazardous things.

Accidents do occur. But precautions to avoid such accidents must be implemented. Negligence by the authority and corruption in the railways might be the reason. What about bombings in railways? We cant say only that department or authority is responsible or corrupt. As far as bombings by terrorists organisations in Railways is concerned, the whole system of the govt., police department, intelligence, every politician is responsible. If the system as such is corrupted the solution of providing security or safety to the passengers cannot be attained. Further your opinion of declaration by the govt. about imposing the risk of travelling in railways on passengers is valid. But they (Govt.) dont have to declare it in sense to the public. It is already imposed and indirectly the citizens have also accepted the fact that our govt. cannot provide any security in respect. Hence, the acceptable solution to this is to travel keeping your life at peril. With no dependence of security or safety from govt.Because if any solution in regard to our safety of life persist, that solution could be unlawful with respect to democracy.

The Railway will always be held responsible for accidents as long as they keep running. The people know when they board that there is an element of risk in this day and time, but they do expect the railways to take as many precautions as possible. The railways also carry insurance, and the people injured expect to have their injuries covered. The families of those killed expect to be able to collect for burial services. A business can never function today without expecting consequences for their actions...

They should be fined or something to give them incentive to fix the railways and make them safe. Are the lives of the people ride the train not important enough for the government, or whoever, to do something? There has to be some kind of regulations and those need to be adheered to.

Absolutely wrong. More people die in road accidents than in rail accidents. Rail journey is one of the safest. That is not to say that the guilty should not be punished or railway should not try to improve. But as you know indians are indisciplined by nature and mostly think thst only good will happen even if they make lots of lapses. If you happen to get a chance to look in to railways working you will find that it is one of the more disciplined and well managed organization than most of the Indian companies. Very high traffic density is one of the major consernes. Govt of India could not provide enough funds for expansion of railway tracks so that good maintenance can be done. The system is very precariously balanced. Therefore the standard of safety is not as high as we hope it should be.

Yes, many railways are old and rusty and many train are derailed and caused so much accident and killed many more people. The railway companies should insure the train so that trail so accident. Otherwise do it like Australia, the government of Australia si spend billions of dollars to repair the railways now.

I definately agree with you post DcotorDidi. Considering that the Indian Railways is amongst the longest rail networks in the world, they do not have the necessary safety measures and no proper maintance. There have been so many instances of derails and once such things happen the blame game starts. One of the biggest problem our country faces is corruption and because of this people are not loyal to the work they do often just fill up their own pockets. Its high time they they do something for the people that travel by train so that they are safe and no one will need to worry..
