Two main observation about mylot

interesting question indeed. Title length I think is restricted to roughly 80 characters. I tested this by typing the following: "Title length that is allowed in mylot. Is it limited or the length can be anyth" Only upto the above length title can be given. that means we have to shorten the title and give attractive title. It is necessary because many times I answer only if the title is good or attractive.(besides other factors like whether the person posting is a friend, etc.) It is not necessary for us to ask people to share. I don't know what the maximum number of characters is for the discussion heading but it is like a headline: it needs to be brief and to the point and should encourage people to open the discussion and want to read more. The discussion topic should, of course, be as descriptive as necessary and should include links where appropriate but it shouldn't be too long or many people will not read it or respond to it. Three or four paragraphs should really be enough. The last paragraph should describe specifically what you want to discuss, preferably as a leading question (or two), phrased so as to require people to give good quality responses.

I do not know how many characters are allowed in the subject line. You may want to be brief in that space. Put more information in the first line of the discussion. You do not need to invite us to discuss or share our opinions, because the fact that you are posting a discussion is an assumed discussion. You may, however, want to give your opinion, as that would give people something to respond back to in the end.

Regarding your first observation and the title I have not made note of it. I have rarely made a long title so I don't know how many and the only way if for you to place a long one and see how many take, is my guess. lol With regards to the second observation it is not necessary to invite us to share our views, as anyone interested in the topic will certainly share their opinion and or view. I do not think I have ever to date asked anyone to share their view. I usually write the body of my topic and allow all who interested to place their response. So I would not worry about not having listed it as it really is not necessary.

Hi :) I think you are telling about title section in your first observation. I had in similar situation in past where i have to shorten my title. Since then I always using the short titles. And also making the bigger title smaller some how. About second observation, I guess that last line made the discussions asking about something. So its not necessary but still important. I will response in discussion in either cases.

sureka, good to hear about your observation, i am not interested in giving lengthy titles, so i don't encounter such kind of issues, don't worry i will always reply to your topic, even though you don't mentioned the last words "Share your ideas and views about these two observation".

The purpose of the subject line is to be intriguing and to (hopefully) draw people's attention to your discussion. You are not actually starting the discussion within the subject line. Catchy, fun and even slightly ambiguous subject lines can draw people's natural curiosity ~ it's not necessary to include so much explanation. As an example, a discussion such as the one you mention could have a subject such as "Diplomat's wife has purse stolen!" You don't have to give the full role or title of the man or more details of the theft -- that is what your discussion will be about. People may be curious to know what diplomat, what were the circumstances of the purse snatching, what did the lady have in her purse... all of those are examples of details that you would put in the body of your discussion. As to your second point -- myLot is a discussion site. It's the majority reason why we come here and what we do with our time. You don't have to ask people each time to share their thoughts... that is the point of reading and responding in the first place

I do not know just how many characters we are allowed for the title but I know I have often had to reword my title to fit in the space. lol. Yes if course I and most others will respond even if you miss that last line asking for responses as we just assume since you made this great discussion you want us to discuss it with you so we will go ahead and give you our opinions for sure.You really do make great discussions so be happy that you are reaching out as a true mylotter and will get some good responses too. just be sure to comment back again. hugs from hatley. Do not fret about the title line as it baffles most of us just shorten and do a bit of rewording and you will make the title fit.

I hve never found that the amount of characters that are allowed in the subject line to be a limitation. The reason that is the case for me is because of the fact that I think that the subject line should really just be a little taste of what the discussion is going to be able. As far as asking a question in a discussion, I really do think that you get more responses when you ask for people's opinions in the discussion that you've started.

Hello, Surekha. The title is meant to give a hint about what you intend to place in your discussion topic. As other mylotters already pointed out the length of title is limited to 80 characters, I presume, because I have not tested. The title need not be a whole sentence even. It is just to make the members interested in the topic. Wording to that effect is good enough. The second point is not a point for questioning at all. Once you are placing a topic for discussion whoever is interested in the topic and intends to talk about it (like I am doing now) will respond without your soliciting specifically.

You are really active my friend.I guess it's very easy for you to think of a topic for discussion.Me, I find it hard to at least start one, but I'm happy too because your discussion are interesting that's is why I enjoy posting comment on your topics. By the way your asking why your title did not fit on the slot provided for, I guess they allow only few characters so you must shorten your subject to fit on the slot. About the second one, maybe you mean the last line you have omitted.I guess members will comment on your topic if they get the thought of what you have discussed even you have missed the last line.Thanks for sharing my fr fiend.

Till now i haven't used the "bold" option, and i can use the my lot codes rarely. And i observe the rating system, it is remain same for longer time in many cases.

Hi Surekha! I have no idea about the number of word limitation for the discussion title. I am really sure that we should write a short title and a good description about the title.Why do you want to write a long title my friend?? If you write it long and it describes everything others will tend to post the comments without even read the whole content. So make the title short and catchy is better and make others to look at the content before they post any comments. About the second question I believe other friends will still respond to your discussions even if you did not write the last line because every discussion is made to get responses and comments from others. We will willing to give our views even if you forgot to welcome any opinions from us.(^^)
