I was bored on the net the other night after I had caught up in my emails & thought I'd look for old friends on facebook & searched a guy's name that I met when I was 14 (we met 19 years ago)..I thought I had found him so messaged him to see if it was him...turns out is was...we swapped cell phone numbers & he called me the other day...it was strange talking to him after all these years as I haven't seen him in about 17 or 18 years! It also turns out that he comes up to where I live on a regular basis with work so we are going to catch up! At 14, I had a thing for him lol but that's all over as it was one of those silly teenage girl things. Have you ever found friends from when you were a teenager & met them again in person after you found them? How was the reunion?

I have been able to find a ton of people that I went to grammar school with, thanks to Facebook. However, I think the oldest friend was someone my husband found. He had told me that he had found his "best friend" when he was younger on Facebook. He was so excited and I thought it was great. The funny thing was this person had moved to another state and my husband had lost contact over the years. I figured this childhood friend was from high school but it turns out that his friend moved when they were six years old! Now that is a long time.

Facebook is definitely a great way to find old friends! That is a surprise that your husband found his very old friend!

It is kind of funny...he signed up on FB about 2 weeks ago, and has been on it all the time now. I have been trying to get him on FB for a long time now and he never seemed to want to. Then all of sudden, he had a nostalic moment and wanted to look up old friends. He lost contact with most of his friends since he moved out of the area, so FB is a good way to keep in touch.

I have contacted a few old friends from the past on Facebook, but have not met those ones in real life again yet. However, two people from my past that have found me on Facebook, I have managed to catch up with in real life while passing through their areas on my travels. Catching up was good and just like old times as we recalled funny moments from our childhood and people we knew etc. It was great to see how they had grown up.
One friend I was best mates with and he was a real ratbag of a kid. We were always getting into mischief together, mostly him leading me into it! But he has turned out to be a great adult with a good life and family, he seems to have it all together. I never would have picked it knowing him as a kid!
The other guy I was not as close to, but I knew him well throughout my childhood as we grew up in the same street. I used to hang around with his younger brother more, but in Facebook, he is the one that I have connected more with. I am friends with his brother, but I do not interact with him. He too seemed a real down to earth guy when I met up with him. He was living right alongside the Sunshine Coast airport when I met him, but he is back in Melbourne now and recently married for the first time in his 40's.

It's amazing who we find on facebook...I have found I talk to some of my old school friends more than what I used to at school & don't really talk to the ones from my group at school.

When I moved back to NSW from Qld, I caught up with several people but even dear friends didn't want to know me. It was heart wrenching for me.
I even got in touch with childhood friends (through the miracle of computers) and the guy I had a schoolgirl crush on also said he knew people in the area where I'm now living and said he would pop in next time he was in the area, a few weeks off, but he never showed and I never heard from him again.

I met this girl when I was in gradeschool. I bumped her tray while I was backing off and this all happened at a Mcdonald's. Her drink splashed all over her and I offered her a piece of tissue. I also found her on Facebook. She grew up to be a gorgeous piece of tomato but she's already married.

Hi moonchild! That's a cute story! Well, I don't think I've had an unexpected reunion lately with any of my previous friends. I regularly see them on Facebook, anyway. What's happening to us though is that our old photos keep on popping on Facebook since most of my high school classmates still have hard copies of the olden days (centuries ago!)
I like walking back the memory lane, though. It's mesmerizing...

It is amazing the kind of photos that pop up on facebook - I have seen ones of me in the 4th grade! You are saying that when you were in school it was centuries ago...You don't look that old in your photo! I thought you would be about my age

Yes as you may remember this same thing happen to me and my old school friend "Josh" who I did get to meet after several years and have been able to keep in touch with him through YM and emails and it's been good to catch up.
I have no idea where a few of my classmates are either but if they were able to escape this little place they seldom look back.

Yes,this happened 3 years ago.I happened to find my old school final year group photo and wondered where all my old classmates were. So i started the search and one by one i discovered them using all the resources available to me. finally i had found around 20 of them, some in my city and some abroad in different countries. It did not take me long to get in touch with them and so we had our first get-together at my residence in 2008.Most of us were meeting each other after 46 years and it was a joy and lots of amusement to see how we looked after such a long time.Upto now we had at leas t 4 to 5 such reunions and every time a new old friend has been added. This has happened not just with my schoolclassmates but also with my old working mates whom i had not met since over 20 years.Yes, it is great fun when we all get together and also very nostalgic.

I have had a lot of encounters from people in my past and each one is very different. Some people are really glad to see you, others are indifferent and still others don't want to reconnect with those from the past. Facebook definitely makes it very likely that we all will have many encounters with those from our past. I am always amazed at the face and names that pop up each time I log on. It is equally amazing to me who accepts my friendship requests and who does not. For the most part over this last week most of the people who I thought would accept right away, i have not heard from and those that I sent requests to never expecting to hear from were the ones that responded back. People are in different phases of their life and may or may not want to reconnect later.

I can't say that I've met people online that I've met in person who was from my past. Though through facebook, I've seen people I was shocked I knew. Over half my friends on Facebook are people I know. Which I find to be quite odd in my personal opinion. I would have never thought putting my school information would cause things to pop up and see so many people I knew. LOL. Unbelievable how Facebook makes the world such a small place.

I think that's what facebook all about, meeting old friends and classmates from the past. Reminiscing what happen when you were young and finally a grand reunion will be plan from reuniting in facebook. Our batch way back in college just had one. It was a night full of laughter and we all had a blast from the past!
