In this hectic pattern of existence most us let our mind wander and let it take a course of its own. Self-restraint and moral strength were the characteristics of mental caliber of the past.At present people no longer try to keep a close watch on self discipline.A mind at peace necessarily would be a controlled one .The parameters of mental discipline might vary from person to person. However ,ultimately only a healthy mind would support a healthy body.

In a certain way I agree with you. A healthy mind is necessary to support serious diseases like cancer for example. If your mind is not strong enough to handle the necessary discipline for putting up with the treatment it will take longer and will be in consequence more difficult to put a stop to the desease.
In daily life a healthy mind is essential to put up with the stress of life in modern society. However, the mind canĀ“t control e.th., for example when a disease is in terminal state.

Our mind is the most valuable asset that we have in a number of ways. In the end, when we really think about it, when the mind is rather healthy, then the rest of everything will follow closely. Therefore, we need to get our heads on straight first. Then we can worry about everything else. Once our mind is sound and secure, then the real work tends to begin.
Sadly there are a lot of people out there who pay little mind to their minds. It is a rather frustrating thing that their mind is something that gets moved to the back of our mind. Still we have got to all work on in strengthening our mind and working on our mental discipline. Only good things will happen when that little issue is fixed a lot of the time. Most battles are won in the mind but if our mind is not sound, then most battles can be lost.

Sometimes in life we wear so many masks that it becomes impossible to see one true character. Self discipline is fast forgotten in this stormy world that seems to be functioning upside down. If we realise that wars are born in the minds of undisciplined minds of men, we would make greater efforts for peace of mind and to cultivate a more discipline thoughts.

A healthy mind in a healthy body is very true. This can be achieved when one goes on the spiritual path and practices certain disciplines or techniques which bring self control, self discipline, discrimination and detachment to the fore. When the mind is cleansed of all the dross and grime of worldly materialism then it naturally flowers and blooms and becomes spotless and tranquil like the clear blue waters of a still lake. When such a condition is achieved by the mind then the real Self or the Truth is revealed and man becomes one with Godhood. It is true that life today has become a struggle not just for living and surviving but even to maintain ones character and not to fall to temptation. Everyday we find numerous examples of how even the brightest of minds fall into the trap of evil and greed which bring about their own downfall. Many such people have sacrificed a lot to reach the highest levels of society using the same means of hard work, self control and self discipline, but in a moment of madness have succumbed to temptation and have their character besmirched once and forever after being caught redhanded. This is the sad state of humanity today.

I like this thought. We must have self discipline and learn to direct our minds to care about and focus on what's necessary and important. Else, if we let our minds wander, we get lost along the way.

Healthy mind, healthy body yes. Now days people don't rise to any restraints or controlls. Self discipline seems a thing of the past. Alot of people now days are selfish and self serving. No room for such discipline or restraints. It is sad that the ancients had it down and we seem to scoff at it now.

I was raised in a generation when a controlled mind was considered a mind bound by others requirements. Freedom of mind to allow creative thought was a big deal. Well like anything else humans tend to do it went overboard and created mass confusion. Next we reacted back the other way, discipline and self control were required. Again this system went over board and we were back in the mess or even a worse one then we started with. Moderation and balance are the answers, remembering to treat all others as we wish to be treated. If we can get on this tract we will have a good chance at the world we all wish to live in.

I agree with you. I believe that one of the best gifts we can give our children is to teach them the art of self-discipline consisting of mind, body and spirit. Discipline is not easy and it is so much better to have received the adequate training as a child. Having said that it does not mean that we cannot train our ourselves as fully grown up individuals.

I like this thought. If we learn to discipline our minds to focus on the things that are necessary and important, then our lives would be a little easier in this time. If we let our minds wander then nothing seems to get done.

The labor to put our minds to worthy and useful matters is our duty. Happiness dawns in naturally once when we achieve this goal. Good luck.

Going through what I'm going through in my life right now, I find that there are a lot of times that my mind is wondering. I think that a big part of the reason that this is happening to me is because of the fact that there is a lot of uncertainty in my life right now. I don't really believe that this is the healthiest way for me to be, but then if I didn't allow my mind to wonder, then I don't think that I would be able to cope with my reality as well as I've been able to do.

Yes, I do subscribe to this though too. But can you suggest some ways on how to cultivate a healthy mind? It would be nice if you can share some things that you do to discipline your mind. I am interested in trying it out also. I do believe too about the mind over matter thing and that the mind is a very powerful tool is used wisely and effectively.

Yes - it is true, that in this world that we are living in, there is so much going on around us that it is often very difficult for us to keep our minds at peace. I agree that if we are able to gain the skill of clearing our mind we would be far more disciplined and far more at peace with the world, and would therefore be able to be healthy in both body and mind!

Our mind in a sense is who we are. What we think, what we do, how we feel, how we react all comes from the mind. If we decipline who we are, we will get better results. Better decisions, better thoughts, better actions and whats most important, a better life.

Yep, we need our brains to function effectively for our daily undertakings. There were times when I really didn't have the will to go to work. I was lying on the bed almost feeling sick but was not. All I wanted to do was just sleep all day. Maybe it was also about the workplace (my workplace sucks just so you know) but I'm pretty sure most of it was because I lacked sleep.

I strongly believe that you become what you think. I try to keep a healthy mind in order to have a healthy body. Same for being happy, think happy thoughts and you should be happy!
