I have this thing of not using public toilets. I just dont like and cant use it. Thinking how many people come in and out there to use it. And we are not really sure what germs are there and maybe someone sick use it and I'll get sick too. This is why Im having a hard time going out. Whenever I feel I have to use the toilet most of the time I am waiting till we come home to do it. I know it is not healthy but I am really not comfortable of using public restrooms. If we travel a long trip by car, I have to bring like a liter of alcohol and then clean and wide it out here and there. And then make it without touching the sink. I also am not comfortable of using even our relative's restrooms for a big toilet... I dont know but it's sometimes difficult for me to go out because of this habit. There's no place like our own toilet at home where I know its clean and safe.

Hi!
I share your sentiments but if I wanna go, I must go. I don't want to postpone it because that would be more unhealthy than using a dirty public restroom. But when I pee in a public restroom, I don't sit on the bowl, I squat. If I have lots of tissue, I will wipe the bowl first before I sit on it. But sometimes even if I have wiped it, I still think twice and then decide to just squat. I don't like holding my pee. It's very unhealthy.
What about in your friend's house? You don't like using their bathrooms, too?

Is that considered OC? Obsessive-compulsive disorder? But it's a good thing they understand you. ^^

Oh you may never want to hear this but I have the worst experience when it comes to public toilet. I have no choice, I have to pee and let go of that urine before I get UTI or my bladder explodes . It was 12 hours travel via bus and I have no choice but to go to the toilet and pee since it was the time for the bus to stop.
The toilet was very dirty, yucky and there are ugly things there that you might be able to step your shoes if your not quick to see. I really got traumatized on public toilets and whenever I travel long distance, I see to it that we won't be taking any bus anymore.

I used to also be repelled too of using public toilets but one time I had to use it badly. I went to the bathroom on our office floor and did my business there. I was relieved and surprised at the same time. The toilet bowl just looked so clean that I didn't even think that it was public at all.

uhmmm that might cause you some health problems if you hold your pee for a long time. I'll give you an idea. If you can practice peeing while on squat, you can pee on public toilet without your butt touching the bowl. Isn't that better? It might take some time before you master it though.

Yes, I can understand you. But imagine the bacteria that can cause urinary tract infections if you keep on holding it. The toilets are disinfected when it is cleaned. Bacteria that can cause diseases are lurking everywhere (eyelash curler, in our mascara, and even in our own hands) and we cannot avoid them. There was a research that said that an office table potentially have more bacteria than a toilet bowl. I guess everyone doesn't like to use public toilets, but if we have to go, we have to release it also for health reasons. We can always disinfect our hands afterwards. We can squat for we don't need to sit on the public toilet bowl. Hence, it is still your discretion and I respect that. Take care.

Haha. I can totally understand. That is a good thing to be clean all the time. But your worrying too much about it might stress you out. Just trust that you are disinfected. Besides your trying to avoid it makes you do it lesser. Whenever I can I even open the door knob with tissue paper. And even if I wash my hands I still disinfect my hands because the faucet handles can be very well bacteria-laden. And the moment I arrive home the first thing I do is wash my hands before I touch anything else in the house.
And when my child child goes in to pee, I would always tell her not to touch anything, e.g. the walls, doorknobs--anything inside the toilet.

I just don't like using public toilets. It stinks and there is s*** anywhere. People don't flush. In my country the dirtiest thing is public toilet. So whenever I go our I won't drink much water and spend for 7-8 hours. I only go out for 4 hours the maximum. Until then I can come home and done my thing.

I have seen some very disgusting public toilets, but I use them when I have to. My husband and I live pretty pretty far away from the big city and it takes a while to drive from the city to our home, so I usually have to use the public toilets. I don't want to wait for hours when I am far away from my home. I always squat, even when the toilet looks clean, because I don't want to sit on a toilet that a lot of different people use. If the toilet is dirty and smelly (that is often the case) I cover my nose to avoid the smell and finish as fast as I can.

Yes I also don’t like using public toilets because there are many dirty on toilets. So I don’t like this. I think for this also public is responsible because they don’t want use it to clean. And also its cleaner is responsible for this because cleaner doesn’t perform his duty. So I always avoid public toilets.

Every body has to follow the social responsibilities. In front of public, do not do any thing like you said. You came here with a social motto. I agree with you.

My uncle told a story of what may have been one of the worst experiences ever. He was out at a rest stop that have the toilets dug into the ground and he went into the stall and heard a man yelling for help. My uncle asked where is he and he said down here. He dropped something in the toilet and was crouching down to try and get it out on top of the toilet and he fell in to the sewage tank below. My uncle had to use a pay phone to call 911 and tell them that there was a man in that highways rest stop sewage tank. The fire department had to come along with hazmat because of all the chemicals that are in those public toilets. I don't mind the regular toilets but I don't like that kind. I will hold it instead of using the porta potti types.

That's totally understandable. But the problem is what if you can't hold it off anymore and you are still miles away from home? That usually happens a lot so I had to use the public toilet and I just take a bath immediately when I get home.

Don't worry - I think that the way that you feel about public toilets is normal! I know that I have exactly the same feeling - if I absolutely can prevent it in any way, I will never use a public restroom. I would far rather wait until I go home! And yes, even with good friends and relatives, I feel the same way. Its such an intimate and personal thing and to have to share that kind of facility with absolute strangers is something that makes me feel very uncomfortable. So you are not alone!

Hmmmmm.. I don't feel like using the public comfort rooms too.. I'm not comfortable using it. But if I can't hold myself to pee anymore, when it will leave me no choice, I should use the public restrooms. But, only the food chain restrooms. And when I pee, I see to it that my leg or any part of my body will never touch in any part of the toilet. It just feels disgusting and unclean.
If I can still hold myself to pee, I'll just wait till I get home. :) At home, I know who uses it and I know it's clean and safe from any diseases. :)

You are right to be cautious, but, you are taking it to the extreme. It sounds to me like you're a germaphobe. You're going to have to deal with a situation some time that is really going to affect you. You need professional help to get over your phobia, like someone would with any other phobia.

It can be hard to feel confident when using public facilities. you never know clean they really are and often how safe they are as well. they are a convenience so we just have to take care when we use them and appreciate them for what they are needed for.

Yes I am like you as well where I try never to use public toilets. There are times I really have to go and try as much as possible to squat and never sit. I don't like sitting in public toilets as I don't know how clean and or unsanitary it is so I really try not to use them unless I really, really have to go.

As a society we have become obsessed with cleanliness to the point we are hurting ourselves. We have an immune system for a reason if it is never challenged then we can more easily get sick and get something worse when we are older. I'm not saying don't practice good hygiene or not to wash your hands each time you use the toilet. I am simply saying that there are germ everywhere all the time and in places you don't think about it and in all likelihood the bathroom is the least of your worries since everyone thinks about hygiene in a bathroom and they are usually cleaned often. You are only hurting yourself worrying about it.
It sounds like you are a germophobe and are possibly obsessive compulsive. If you are happy being this way then keep at it but if you want to free yourself from this obsession I would talk to your doctor about therapies and medication that can help.
