Strange things happen in life and I often wonder about it. A few years ago while I resided in Pune,an incident occurred that still haunts my mind.Ours was the only apartment building among several Row houses. One such Row house belonged to an old lady who was a widow. She lived alone as she had lost her family in a car accident.A young servant boy called Bahadur lived with her. Bahadur was from a small village in Pokhara located in Nepal. He had been serving the old lady for the past 7 years. The two had grown attached to each other over time. She often teased him, that if he ever left her,she would haunt him after her death. To this Bahadur often said "If you die I will follow you".Bahadur had not visited his native place for almost five years and though he missed his family, he was unable to see them as there was no one to take care of the old lady.Bahadur felt it was his duty and he could not abandon her. Time went by.One morning Bahadur woke up and found that the old lady had passed away in her sleep. He was devastated. The funeral took place and Bahadur performed the last rites. With the old lady gone,he now decided to leave and head back to his native village. His village was in the interiors of Nepal and after a point no transportation was available.Travelers had to hike up to their destination. After a point, to reach his village, he would have to cross the Phewa lake in a boat. When Bahadur reached the lake, the boat had not yet arrived. He was told that he would have to wait for at the least two hours. Impatient and desperate now to seehis family he decided to swim across. The other travelers warned him and tried to stop him as it was too deep and dangerous. Not paying heed to their warnings, Bahadur jumped into the lake. Alas, the inevitable happened. Poor Bahadur never surfaced to see his family again, but he had kept his word and proved his loyalty to the old lady . Life’s Like That.Is it possible that words that pour out truly from the heart can turn to reality?
