This is a thumb drive size (Think flash Drive ) that connects via USB to allow for you Notebook or Desktop to connect to a network running IEEE 802.11n,IEEE 802.11g,IEEE 802.3,IEEE 802.3u protocols. These are what you would need to know about the wireless connection you where trying to connect to. If it is running the same protocols. IEEE 802.11n is a long range Wifi Connection that can cover I believe up to 70 feet away from the base station if the channel is free of interference. If you could post a link to what it is exactly you are looking at it would be easier to tell exactly what it is but as far as I can tell it seems to be reading like a USB Adapter that either is for Notebooks that don't support some of the newer Wifi Protocols like IEEE 802.11n is a fairly new one and may not be fully supported on older machines and to get Desktops connected to the network if you don't want to run wires all over your house.
