I'm surprised how patiently they return to your door again and again.I remember having a conversation with one of them.It was a young couple. They were very polite and very humble. They were standing for a half an hour there and we discussed religion together.I was trying to figure out why do they sacrifice their time and money so willingly for that organization?Mind control or just a pure faith?

The same question could be asked of any religion, to be honest. JW's are no different to the Salvation Army, Methodists, Baptists, Mormons, Pagans, Islamists, Jews or any other group: they believe what they believe.
I used to work with a guy who's a JW and we had some of the BEST conversations at lunchtime. I'm pagan, so we chatted about our respective beliefs. Great guy, no pressure, just really interested in different views.
The ones who freak me out when they visit are the Mormons. There are always two guys, one of whom is really nice and friendly, constantly laughing and joking, while the other one ("Elder" someone) just stands there and stares with this really spooky psychotic glazed look. I keep wanting to shake him and make sure he's awake. Why they send him out to spread the word, I don't know: he's more likely to scare people away, in my opinion.

I've never had any trouble with any door-knocking evangelists, to be honest. I'm polite and point out that I've made my choices. If they start in on something, I simply inform them that I've read their text - I've read the Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, the Mormon Bible, books on shamanism, paganism, kabbalism, witchcraft, the occult and a whole bunch of other religions, spiritualisms and beliefs.
They can't argue with that. And if they try, I simply inform them that I considered all the stuff they're trying to make profound about 20 years ago. Old hat, no thank you, decision made.
I have worse trouble with charity collectors. They can be real intrusive, though most are fine.

Mormon guys look spooky, I agree. They look like they came to take your soul.Well, JW's are extremely polite comparing to some groups you've mentioned in your post.

Hello SpikeLobster, I have no clue as to why they are like that inviting more people to their beliefs. I am a Roman Catholic as I felt we always keep our religion to ourselves except on some who are members of catholic religious organizations like my mom joined. the mormons, yeah they always into two people two guys, i never understand them from the start. Have a nice day.

Pure faith. I have been there for about seven years- even though I don't attend the meetings nowadays, but I know how they organize themselves for the sake of Jehovah God. The time they spend is not wasted, infact it uplifts one's heart to do more to spread their faith.
I have read so many negative things about them, control of mind and as dangerous cult topping the list but in my own experience with them, I did not see anything bad about them. They are just strict when it comes to Biblical teachings...

I've noticed that their biblical interpretation is a bit different, but I wouldn't say that it's wrong.People argue too much over the interpretations.

Isn't the big difference the 144,000 thing? I don't know a huge amount but I remember that being a fundamental tenet, along with not celebrating some public holidays. I may have to read up a bit and solidify my knowledge.

As far as I can tell they are just another religious group and just about as illogical as any other religious group. the only difference is this "Service in the Field" as they call it where they go round knocking on doors and preaching. I have not had much trouble with them. Our local nut is quite friendly and inoffensive

yeah, i to experienced their preaching, its purely be half of faith only. I have taken the study from them twice in a week its really helpful for us to grow in the name of the lord. They let us to know many things about the lord, even they clarify our doubts in bible. The teach very nicely whats god wish and why the world is like this even what will happen in future in this world all these include in their preaching.

I remember People from this religion kept knocking on my door and giving leaflets about it. there was this one incident that a member asked me from out side the gates if I had "frustrations and doubts about God" I told her i don't question him though inactive. they stop after occassional attempts. I had co trainer that is a member of this religion and a friend of mine warned her about this kind of religion but i told him to just respect it. have a nice day.

Jehovah's witness is an open religion (www.watchtower.org www.jw.org) with its membership based upon informed consent to accept to abide to God's requirements, laws and principles as totally indicated in the Bible which one accepts through intense 1 to 2years or more bible study before one can dedicate his or her life to become one of Jehovah Witnesses and serve the Almighty Great God Jehovah.
They are found in almost 250 countries and island, and they are made of the jobless to industrialist, students to Rocket scientist.
They have receive favorable comments from world great leader like one Mohandas Ghandi and Great Zik of Africa, and feared by so called world religious leader

Hi sivercoin, I would say both mind control and pure faith. They have classes and they are taught, drilled to do this. I am not a Jehovah's Witness but I have had contact with them. Some of them are very humble and patient, but I did come in contact with one that had an attitude problem. My neighbor is a Jehovah's Witness and we get alone just fine. I am apostlic or non-denomination.

I've never met anyone from the "upper class" or the heads of the organization.I wonder if they are as humble, modest and patient like these members.

I actually am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We sacrifice our time and energy to help others who may have an interest in spiritual things and who want to learn more or have a bible study. We volunteer our time and efforts. We have faith in what the Bible says and we strive to help others who want to understand it better. I have free will :) and we follow what the Bible says and that's why we love people and are willing to give of our time to help others.

This is a very interesting topic with many interesting responses. I myself am not JW but did have a dear friend who was. She was always the most patient, kindest person I had ever met. We had several conversations about our differences of belief but she always respected me and as one person commented she always backed up everything she said with the bible.

Your question about their regular preaching, door to door knocking is a good one. Perhaps the best way to get a factual information is to inquire directly from them. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will have to be one of them if you inquire. It is just some sort of knowing some information. You can ask every question or issue raise about them (blood transfusion, preaching, etc) by going to their local places of worship. I think there are a lot of them in your place or you can check out their official website www.watchtower.org for other information.
I have found out that many people are saying negative things about them and their organization but then I am not sure if their statement is based on factual information or not. When I want to get information about something, I will personally get information directly from the concern person or organization. In that way, you can get firsthand information and not just relying on what others "think" of them. This is what I do not just on religious organization but also on other things that requires me to get an info and it works. You wouldn't consult an electrician to diagnose you if you have health problems, would you? A certain person/organization cannot be represented by what other "thinks" of them.
