a wise man, my father lol, once told me the human body is made up mainly of water, and in order to maintain this water, you need to replenish it, by drinking up to 8 tall glasses of water a day.. and with it being the most abundent compound on earths surface, and with most if not all of us having access to a tap at any stage of the day, it should be easy enough to do right? and with it being tasteless and odourless, surely there should be no problem? right? wrong. i hate it lol.
well, knowing my daddy, i thought this was a load of rubbish, and decided to investigate. we all know about dehydration, but surely thats only in extreme cases, and cases of people drinking little or no fluid, no specifically water!
water is essential to our metabolic processes, which would infact not occur with the absense of water. and its essentially in respiration, and a lack of water can even slow down brain function.. so i think its safe to say my daddy was right.
do you drink enough water?

i don't also drink much water than anyone use too and that's a problem for me. but what can i do if i don't drinking has never been my habits although i know that it is bad. water is essential fr us to have a balance and healthy body and that we should understand it and apply it by heart. i guess this should be the best advice i could give to myself lol.

I drink more than 8 glasses of water everyday, in fact at least 16 glasses, but more if I am engaged in physical exertion. It is a lot of bother because you have to relieve yourself every now and then, but there are health benefits too. When I am on long travel however, I refrain from drinking much water, based on my calculation of the trip. But then, I load up on water after the trip is done.

It was initially to imitate my father, who drank a lot of water. He was quite strong, so I thought maybe water could make me strong too. Ultimately of course, I developed the habit of drinking glasses and glasses of water. I actually drink at least 4 tall glasses after EVERY meal.
Yes, I think it has helped me maintain my health. I don't get sick that easily. As to complexion, I think it's just normal to my age and color. But yes, I think my complexion could have been worse if I were not fond of water.

Definitely your daddy was on the right side. Drinking more water cleanses our body and it will also help you to be more pretty looking...

yeah i think that as well.. i was just saying re a comment above, that i think drinking plenty of water attributes to a healthy complexion, and water is the fonding base of a detox so obviously it is something that cleanses us.. :)

I try to drink alot of water. Sadly I am a coca cola addict! I love it! I try pushing the come in the back of the fridge so I can't reach it! I have my water bottles up front for easy access. My husband works in the sun all day so his work gives him these Gatorade packets you mix with bottled water. I try using those and their really tasty if I get tired of the water taste.

For me yes it is true so better to drink alkaline water so that no acid will be form into your body because it can cause more disses when you get old.
@chicksdigscars (5483)

i'm not entirely sure what alkaline water is.. could you elaborate? is it like tap water put you put it through a filter? or is like bottled mineral water?

I didn't expect that your post is about poplular science.Of course ,water matters to all of us .And no one can live without water .Even though everyone knows that ,not everybody can drink enough water everyday for lack of time or something .Instead ,they drink beverage which contains sugar and other unhealthy materials. I didn't know that when i was a child .But now i seldom drink
sodas .

i love drinking coca-cola.. its my addiction, and i know that drinking it can affect my health greatly, so if i drink a bottle one day, i'll not drink a bottle the next and instead drink fruit jucei.. but maybe i shiuld swap the fruit juice, for diluted and concrentrated squash and this would maybe get my water intake up.. atleast that way when i have a day of drinking water, i can reward myself almost with a 500ml bottle of cola :) ..
you didn't expect my post to be about popular science? .. you think i'm just a dumb blonde don't you ;) lol! kidding!

It is a fact and was never a myth. I always wanted to stay healthy by drinking lots of water since i am prone to UTI because i always hold my pee when i'm busy. I don't like to be disturbed. And drinking water makes me pee often as well. But i try to be conscious by how much water intake i have in a day. I know i should drink more than 8 glasses to stay healthy. In fact one of the members here made a suggestion how to drink water effectively.
It was like drink a glass or two right after waking up, another glass 30 minutes before each meal and a glass before going to bed.

thats quite a good idea. with reference to the comment i made above, i'm going to start drinking 2 tall glasses a day for a week, and then 3 glasses the next week, the 4 and so on until i'm at my 8,and see if it makes a difference to my well-being, and my complexion, because apparently lots of fresh drinking water attributes to a healthy complexion, and i find the skin on my face a lot duller than the skin on the rest of my body.. but that could be from wearing makeup and maybe the sun doesnt get to it enough lol! either way.. maybe i'll try drinking water and wearing no makeup at the same time! lol.. but i agree with you, thats the bit i'm not looking forward to, running to the toilet every 10minutes. i have to pee more than most normal people on a daily basis as it is! lol!

LOL! This is my weakest point :P I seldom drink water. It's not that I dislike it. I just don't drink a lot of it. I can go through the whole day just drinking a glass or two of it. The last time had my physical exam, the doctor looked into my throat and immediately said "you need to drink lots of fluids" XD

see thats like me, i'm very seldom thirsty. i don't have a large appetite really, and if i eat breakfast i usually skip lunch, not to diet or loose weight, as i'm very slim, i just dont ever feel that hungry.. and then probably because i'm not eating an over abundance of food, i'm never really thirsty either. its a shame because theres a water cooler right beside my desk, and i really should make an effort lol!

I think I drink enough everyday, but I don't think I drink 8 glasses a day. I drink juice for breakfast and milk for my other meals. I usually drink a little water too as well. I feel like I drink enough, but I guess I could try to drink some more water everyday.

i think i'm going to start with a plan.. i'm going to drink 2 tall glasses a day, for a week, then increase it to 3 the next week and so on and so forth until i'm drinking my 8 glasses a day and try and get into a routine, it'll be like an experiment for me to see if i can fit those 8 glasses into my schedule where it bcomes more like habit, and see if it makes a difference to my general well-being. i'm not looking forward to running to the toilet every 10 minutes though lol!
