I tended to enjoy to read books ever since I was a young child. For some people though, that love tends to not get cultivated until much later in life. There are many people who have been turned off by reading as children, until one day, they are encouraged to check out this book or that book and if its a good book, they might discover a late love for reading. So there is just sometimes it takes the right book to enjoy reading. For those who do not enjoy reading, maybe the right book is still to hopefully come for you.

I agree that some people do not take to reading as readily as others. that is why it is a teacher's job to know a lot of books from varying reading levels in many genres to help reach all of his or her students. it does take the right book. For many kids that book was Harry Potter.

Very true, Harry Potter was the book for an entire generation of children for sure. And I'm sure while the popularity will not be what it was when the series was fresh, it will still be in the corner of many libraries, just like many other beloved books had been. Ready for a child who is enlightened to really enjoy some form of reading. In the end, hopefully children find the right book and are not boxed in by a school administration that have no concept of children(which sadly affect the teachers as well). Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

i agree that some administration do not understand that you need a good mix of books, and instead only buy what seems to interest them. I am lucky in the fact that my current principal was a former reading teacher. The amount of new books in the library has doubled in the past 3 years and it is a wide variety.

Hi megamatt! I agree that sometimes it takes the right book to enjoy reading. I felt lucky that I was exposed to reading when I was still in grade school. I am the third child in the brood of four and my elder sister and brother loves reading so I was influenced by them. I was excited when I had my borrower's card and I can borrow a book at our school library. The first books that I've read were Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene. And when I was in high school I read books by Sidney Sheldon. I loved his books and I'm glad I started reading then because when we were asked to write a book report in our English class I did not find it hard and I got an A for it! Reading is part of my life because I was able to travel through different parts of the world in the comfort of my home and know different people and cultures. And I was able to improve my vocabulary since English is a second language to me. So, to those who are still in thinking of making reading a hobby, start now!

It is rather something good to make reading a hobby for sure. It can really be a huge and resourceful part of your life to say the very least. You might learn something, you might get enjoyment, you might get both, you might get anything. Its best to start you but even then, it really is never too late to start. All it takes is a book for you to sink your teeth into. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi megamatt! Reading is a lot of fun. I particularly enjoy novels such as thriller novels, horror novels, adventure novels, and others. I love the books of Stephen King, Dan Brown, John Grisham, and Anne Rice. I loved the Harry Potter books and the Legend of Drizzt of books. It's embarrassing to admit but when I was in high school, I loved reading romance novels. When I passed that adolescence stage, I started to appreciate other books of other genres like the ones I mentioned above. I think reading improves our imagination and makes us more knowledgeable of things. Even if they are novels, they can still make you smarter, they at least, improve your vocabulary. That is why, if there's a book that I want to read, I try to get a copy and read it.

I think in today's tech and mobile world, people find it harder to read for more than a few seconds. I'm concerned that in twenty years the people running the world will run it in sound bites and images alone. That's a little scary.

You know that is a scary thought and I think that is a very unfortunate result of the world today. Really there are a lot of people who have the attention spans of a common house fly. The generation that are growing up today, that's bad, but I really am fearful for the next generation after this one. It is rather scary little thing to think about it, but it is no less going to be rather likely. Hopefully we're wrong, I really hope that we are. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Yes literally true discussion you have started my friend, Reading is a concept where we read it with great interest unlike other activities we can engage in another activity if its not that interesting, say for example a movie which you dont like the most its an average rated but still you prefer to watch the movie that's because visualization plays a very important role in creating a dynamic phase in one's mind but on the other hand if you are reading a book which you at the beginning you dont find something interesting then you tend to leave reading the book, this is because the things which you were expecting were not according to it and thus we find the book boring to read. So concluding on the topic a right book will always help in enjoying reading.

Our enjoyment is pretty much anything for any hobby. This is really completely true for when we do sit down and read that one good book. It is really an enlightening experience to read a book and it is something that we can find enjoyable for sure to say the very least. If it tends to inspire and engage our minds, so much the better for sure. A lot of people tend to take some time but that is really more than okay. Finding the right book is not something to be forced. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

You are absolutely right. Both my husband and I are avid fiction readers and we read to my son when he was small; but, he never became interested in reading. Then, when he was in his late teens he found non-fiction books about topics he was interested in. Now, he reads all the time; but, he will not look at or even consider a work of fiction even though my husband and I prefer fiction. (I later found that my mother-in-law is the same way; so, he takes after her when it comes to reading tastes.) I would rather see my son reading non-fiction than not see him reading at all. So, sometimes it is just a matter of getting the right book to an individual to get them to start to enjoy reading.

In the end, any book is a victory. Given that some people would refuse to even give any book a chance and it could really be a fight for some people to really give it a bit of a chance. There are a lot of times where its going to be all down to the right book, to allow a person to really enjoy the written word. It might take a bit of time, but once they find it, the rest will come. If it causes a love of reading to be discovered, then really that's all that is. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I've always enjoyed reading. It's something that I've enjoyed doing ever since I was a kid. It's just something that I can't help. But I have to say though that there have been books that I simply did not enjoy reading. Reading is something that you can enjoy, but there are times, when a good book does help you enjoy reading as well.

A good book really can push the process on a lot easier. Granted as many I'm sure will find out when they read many books, each book(and my extensive authors), have distinctive strengths and weaknesses that can really pop up from time to time. I think that it does sadden me where there are books that I really do not enjoy all that much. But I can't enjoy everything. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I find that for me it really has to be just the right book to keep my interest. I cannot get through a book if I don't like it or it doesn't hold my attention. You would think this would make it difficult for me to find books but actually it's not, thank goodness! I just find that after a few chapters if I just cannot get into a book, I typically don't bother with it. That's when reading becomes a chore and not something I'm doing for fun anymore.

That tends to be a rather good way to go for some people. Often times people do have that knack of seeing whether or not it is something that will interest them a lot of the time right away. Others it takes a little while. Still there can be times where something does catch our interest fairly soon and that is a rather good thing for sure. It leads to us enjoying what we read. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I find when I am out of the habit of reading, it is best for me to pick a quick and easy book to read with a lot of action. That gets me excited about reading without having to concentrate too hard and I can relax and enjoy a fun read, and it encourages me to read more and more. I think anyone would enjoy reading if they get into the habit, there are books out there to appeal to everyone!

Different tastes for all. The good thing about the written world is that there is something that is out there for everyone to say the very least. There are times where people would enjoy a nice leisurely read. There a lot of times where people would want something rather more engaging and rather more thought provoking. It is all about a mutual love of reading. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I think it always takes a good book to enjoy reading. I think nobody, even a bookwork will touch a book which doesnt interest him/her. BEing a reader is a very advantageous hobby and I am a reader too. But I have to say I chose the books that interest me only... Like I will not read an engineering book or a horror book... unless it has something intriguing in it then maybe I could give it a try.

That is very much true. Those books that do not interest us, are not going to be be something that we are going to willingly read. I'll be honest, I'm rather open minded as it comes to reading, but if a book does not captivate my interest after I have given in a fair enough chance, I'm tempted to just give it up as a lost cause. I've been rather surprised with the quality of books from certain genres, and rather disappointed as well. As long as it looks interesting however its worth a shot. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Except the textbook or books related to the occupation, Book lovers often look at books related to the area of their interest. Then they read them and continue reading the book till the end, if they enjoy it; and of course they will leave it in between if it is not the right one (i.e they are not enjoying it)

This is just so true! One's interest in reading can always start given a real good book. Most of the time I compare a good book and a script. If the script's not good, it doesn't matter if the actors you put into it are great. The "Ooomph" will not just be there and it'll be a huge bore :P That's why I also choose books that are of my interest. I can read historical books and I'll definitely sleep over Engineering books (though I'm a Software Engineer myself. LOL!) Enjoying a good book will always be dependent of the reader's interest and the content of the book :D What's good in one book may not be good for the other and vice versa but I DO agree on your point that you need a good book to spark an interest in reading :)

That is a rather good comparison to say the least. I mean I've seen movies with good actors, that I know are talented. However if the writing is rather not off to snuff, there is only so much they can do. I get a dry, uninterested book in front of me and I try and find the best points about the book, that is really something that there is a lot of the time where there are is just not much to do. There is just something about many books that are not that engaging. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I do like to read, but there are certain books I will not read. I liked to read when I was younger, then I stopped enjoying it, and started enjoying it again. I think sometimes people would much rather be read to then to read for themselves as they understand it better, or enjoy it much better if they can feel it's more like a movie or t.v. show.

That is a fair statement to make. A lot of people do not feel like they have the focus to really delve into a book as much as they really should. Therefore they might not really enjoy actually reading a book. I think that I am very much the opposite in a number of ways. I just enjoy reading at my own pace, and that pace tends to vary. But maybe that's just me. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

it can sometimes feel like a waste of time to read something you are not enjoying to read. it makes the reading experience so much more pleasurable when you read something that your heart and mind are really focused on.

That truly is why many people do tend to grow tired of reading a lot of the time. They are reading a lot of things that they are not too fond of. This tends to happen during assigned reading during school years. A lot of schools claim that they are trying to help children enjoy reading, but while some times that may be true, a lot of the time they are just causing the downfall of enjoyment for many people. It is extremely frustrating but very true to say the least. It takes a good book that we can sink our teeth into you really enjoy it. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I think that anyone who has been a reader for any amount of time has encountered their share of books that they enjoyed. As well as their share of some books that they did not find enjoyable. Often times it takes just one spark, set off by a book that interests the person. Sadly however there are many times where it does take a matter of coaxing to reach that point. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
