my hubby lifted something @ work 2 wks ago & twisted/turned while lifting and misaligned his lower back. been 2 the chiropractor 3 times since then. he's back in alignment now, but still a lil tender. the chiro suggested 'BioFreeze' (which he conveniently sells in his office). hubby said it works great! no smell, no stains, no oils.

I have chronic back pain. All of my discs are screwed up. It's so hard somedays because I love to clean and be active :)
Sometimes the heating pad helps, but not too much. The smelly stuff like bengay helps, but it's such a b^&tch to wash out of the clothes.

Look into a pain clinic where they may be able to offer you alternative treatments like steroid epidural. Helped me a bunch.

I have this as well along with other problems. It's miserable I know. I'm stuck using over the counter meds because I don't have insurance. I use aleve for the most part and bengay when it's bad but there are days like you when just getting up is agony. Heating packs can help as well or even hot showers but not always. I just try to take it a day at a time, sometimes a moment at a time and get through it.

Thank you so much. Problem is so many meds I'm allergic to. Like Celebrex I can't take because it has sulfas in it. Many meds have sulfas (or sulfates, suflites etc) or iodine (povidone) in them and that is worse then the pain. Only just barely but worse. So I make do with what I can. Yeah I alternate between OTC's like aleve, tylenol and ibuprophen. I find that way I don't build up a resistance as much. Luckily mine built up slowly so I'm more used to the pain, if that makes sense. So even though I don't know a day without pain I can deal with most. If the pain on a 10 point scale is below a 5 to me that's a good day.

I am suffering from Low Back Pain and it is triggered even by a simple sneeze or lifting up something in a wrong body position. The doctor's diagnosis is this is caused by a disclocated disc. I was advised to just take a rest and take any painkiller when it gets too painful. There is nothing more that can be done short of surgery which doesn't guarantee a full recovery. I am taking the ordinary OTC like paracetamol, advil and other tablets with ibuprofen. Fortunately, my system reacts quickly to analgesics and any painkiller will do.

I have degenerative disc disease also. I am taking etodolac in 400mg doses 2 times a day. I can take 1 more if needed but try to keep at 2 so as not to get too used to it.
I started out with Aleve and got to where I was taking so much it might just as well have been candy for all the good it did.
And yes it is a miserable thing to have, especially when it's cold or damp.
They wanted to do exploratory surgery on me and assured me there was a 60% chance that it might get better. That meant there was a 40% chance that they would make it worse. I told them there was no way anyone was cutting on me period.
This was before they actually knew what was wrong, and have since told me there is nothing that can be done other than the painkillers.
Mine has since spread into my neck and through my ribs, so there are days when things really get interesting.
I finally did my disability approved last year and I have the VA for my health care so that is at least a good thing.
I can't walk much either and can't stand for more than about 10 minutes, so I know what you're talking about there. Sitting is not too bad at all, but laying down can be a problem. I had to give up driving and am pretty much housebound.
Someone mentioned the pain didn't seem quite so bad as it first was and I have noticed the same thing. I wonder if it isn't due to some nerve damage as I have noticed a lot of intermittent numbness in my hands and arms, especially on the right side. That is the side I first started having trouble with when I first got this.

Good for you for saying no to surgery. In my experience it makes things worse and even when it does help it is usually only for a short time. They say with DDD your back will eventually fuse itself so why opt for a fusion by a surgeon. The exception is when you're suffering from pain, numbness, or tingling going down your legs, or in your case, arms. This could mean that your spinal cord is being compressed. You should have an EMG to see what is happening there. Have you had an MRI yet? Also, steroid epidurals can help a bunch. If a nerve is getting compressed or pinched badly you can lose control and you won't even be able to urinate. So, a pinched nerve can be serious. In these instances you need to get to the doctor and be evaluated. You may need surgery to prevent the spinal cord from being permanently damaged.

I don't as such.
Recently i have been getting back pains. My wife and parents think i'm making it up but it does hurt badly at times. I think i've got a cold in my back. =)
I wished pain would be erased although most of us have to live with it.
I hope it doesn't give you to much pain =)
