Do anyone know who started that saying and why, which dog did it really start with? was it the golden retrivers that started mankind saying that? and I say golden retrivers because, they are smart dogs and they are very helpful with anything that you do I mean they make sure that you are ok and then they help you out of trouble when you need it, do anyone know who was the first dog to be those people assistant dogs? I don't know but it was just a question that I had..

I don't know if it was because of golden retrievers or not, I think more likely because of wolves as they were more common hundreds of years ago. I work, cleaning houses, for people that have dogs. Every single client I have owns dogs. It is very common for people to have at least one dog. I don't have any but I have the attention of about 30 dogs a week. Almost all of the dogs I deal with are golden retrievers or black labs. They are the hunting dogs most people use and it is a big thing here where I live. There are really big dog clubs and they have contests and such all the time. It is really big business. One of my clients I work for has a bed and breakfast for dogs. Another client I have is a vet and she works out of her shop on her property and she has 5 golden retrievers. She also is a dog trainer. So my point being, all dogs are happy to see people, especially their owners. They love unconditionially. They also have no concept of time. Dogs don't know the difference of seeing you five minutes ago or 5 hours ago, so that is why they are always so happy to see you. I get the biggest welcome from all my clients dogs every time I go into their houses to clean, which is weekly, and I do two houses a day so I get greeted big every day. It's cool, nobody ever greets me they way all my clients dogs do, I always feel so loved by them. Cheers and happy mylotting , Chris

I don't know when that saying started. I agree with you, I think golden retrievers are one of the best breeds and they are really nice and smart. I consider my dog as my best friend as well. When I'm at home, we are always together.

Dogs are certainly my best friends. It doesn't matter who started this saying, but from personal experience, I've found dogs to be loving, kind, loyal, protective. thoughtful, intelligent and with good memory, not to use memory to harbor grudges, but to be able to react in the best way that they can. I've always wondered why they are the way they are. Now. come to think of it, spell dog backwards, that's WHO made them the precious lovable creatures that they are!

i dont really know where we get the saying "a dog is a man's bestfriend" but as a dog-owner of 3, i agree with the said quote. dogs are really friendly among all other animals, they're smart, cute and they have good memory.. theyll do anything to please their master and they guard the house.. a sloth, tiger, crocodile, chimpanzee can't ever display such qualities.. so there, among the animals the dog is man's bestfriend

I have no idea who started saying that but I do know it to be true. I have two dogs myself and they are completely my best friends. They love me unconditionally. It is said that a dog is the only being that will love you more than they love themselves. and I do believe that to be true.

Back in the distant past some 40, or 50 thousand years ago, a cave man found an orphaned Wolf cub in the forest. The cave-man took the pup back to the cave and raised it by hand. When the Wolf cub was grown, it surprised its owner by protecting him and his family, and by helping his master to hunt. Some time later when people learned to speak , and everyone had a dog, someone said "A dog is man's best friend!"

I think that there are just so many reasons why people say that dogs are man's best friends. They're really smart, and very loyal. They are protective. And I find that these are just some of the good qualities that you can find in dogs. Having a dog myself, I find this saying is pretty accurate, in my opinion.

I don't know who started it and it was just a quote because dogs are loyal to its master. If ever you might ask also why does someone say "Diamonds are girls best friend" , you may also ask why a precious stone right?

Because they are not only smart but very loyal to their masters. They are not like people who betrays a best friend an definitely can't be like some people who will leave you if you are no longer useful to them. They will always be there for their masters even if they have diseases and can stand by them to protect when it is necessary. That's how worthy they are to be called man's best friend.

Dog was the first animal which was domesticated by the men It had started in the prehistoric period Stone Age, When the humans were staying in the forests, and tracking, trapping killing was the main livelihood for them. Dogs assisted them in these activities. So its a very old saying.
