In my country , israel , we celebrate our independence day (which is a very big reason to celebrate since we got our own Autonomy). We usually have concerts of local israeli bands in some cities, there are many food tables , fireworks , and joy. So , what is the Durga Puja ? Why does they celebrate it ? Are there any special indian things in your festival besides cocerts and food or is it mostly the same ?

That sounds like a wonderful festival. The next holiday that we have here where everything is closed is called Labor Day. It is just a day...a Monday...where everyone gets a long weekend. I love long weekends. There is usually not a festival involved but there are alot of people that like to go camping and swimming. It kind of sees our summertime off. It comes in September..just before our winter. I am really looking forward to it. I am going to a outdoor concert that is lasting all weekend. My b/f wants to camp..but I am thinking along the lines of a room at the hotel down the street

Yes, Durga Puja is our greatest festival especially in West Bengal. We all wait throughout the year for this festival. It is not only a religious festival but also a social one. It is a 'get together' for a family when all the family members who live outside come home to enjoy these few days of festival with the other members of the family. Friends who are separated from each other meet also with one another during this festival. So we the Bengalis treat it as a great 'get together' festival. After the end of the festival, we all eagerly wait for the next Durga Puja to come of.
