The genre of "other fantasy world" is called High Fantasy. There are a million and one high fantasy books out there and you can undoubtably find bunches just by strolling through the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of your local bookstore. It's my favorite genre, but I can't guarantee you'll like any of my favorite books as much as you like Lord of the Rings. I'll list them so you can give them a try if they interest you. Some of my personal favorites are The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, The Magic Kingdom of Landover series by Terry Brooks, The Shannara series by Terry Brooks, The Legend of the Guardian-King by Karen Hancock, The Auralia Thread by Jeffery Overstreet, The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon, The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula Le Guin, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and the Dragon King Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead.

I think I'd recommend the Shannara Series by Terry Brooks. The first book is called "The Sword of Shannara". There are multiple series within that universe, so don't get confused! "The Sword of Shannara" was the first book written so it's where you should start.

It is nice to see the names of so many books which I have not read yet. I am very much looking forward to reading them. I will take up one at a time. Which one do you think I should start with??!! I have seen the Chronicles of Narnia movies and don't want to read that right now.

I have just started reading the Dark Tower series of books by Stephen King. This series is inspired by the LOTR tale. The Author says that in the foreward to the first book. This was his epic that he wanted to create after being caught up in Tolkiens stuff in the 1960's. He wrote the first book in his youth, but he never finished the 7 part series until recent years. So far the first book is hard to get into, but even the author admits that you need to persevere through the first one and then the second book starts to get better. The first one really just gets you into the characters and the tale I think. http://www.stephenking.com/darktower/the_books.html

Hi katie: one of the books along with the lord of the rings that I enjoyed the most reading it was Harry Potter and I am planning to read the Resident evil book series, yes it exists and i hope they will be as good as the films and videogames franchise. I also recommend you the classic ones: Dracula, Frankenstein. Have a good reading. ALVARO

Loved the Harry Potter series. But Lord of the Rings is so much more better, if you are to compare them. But both the series are equally ingenious and make for very interesting reading.

If you like Lord of the Rings, I firstly recommend to read Tolkien's othher books such as The Simarillian. They add even more to the story and so much history to it that it is amazing. As far as another series, If you are willing for more adult oriented books, Conan by Robert Howard is so very much better than the movies ever could be and is as epic a tale as anything else out there. I will also say the author Brent Weeks has a trilogy out called The Night Angel Trilogy. It is very good and mixes mysticism and assassins basically, and does it very well

Wow, thanks so much for answering, you really know the stuff. Yes dear I'll read the Simarillian that his son put together because it talks about Elves is it not? When I heard Tolkien give more attention to my favorite race I was jumping up and down! hahaha, he's so amazing! Thank you, I'll try to read others too I would love to know if you have any movie tips as well. I didn't know The Simarillian was about telling more stories of the lord of the rings, that is going to be so cool. Tolkien still alive, always as he did such an amazing story so we can have fun and learn until nowadays.

That TV series is based on the Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R. R. Martin. We are talking about books here, not TV.

I have never been a fan of fantasy. But the ones that really moved me were The Hobbit, LOTR and Harry Potter. Other than that, I can only offer you names of books in the mystery and thriller genre. But I have a feeling that you are not interested in that.

I recommend the Wheel of Time series, as well as anything by David B. Coe, or David Eddings.

If you enjoy sword and sorcery, you will enjoy the Horseclans novels. Horseclans is a science fiction series by Robert Adams, set in a North America that had been thrown back to a medieval level by a full-scale nuclear war. I first came across these works about the same time i read the very first LOTR "Fellowship of the Ring" Also, Robert E. Howard, L, Sprague de Camp, and there is another author who's name eludes me, have a combined 24 Conan novels. Good reading for the S&S buff. These three are my favorites but i am a Sword and Sorcery fan so I have read hundreds by numerous authors.
