Well in my opinion you should go with the "dell". I am using "acer" but in my opinion the best brand available after apple is dell. The reason for this is the after sell service of dell is unmatchable. But in my opinion before listening to anyone you must see what all configurations you need and then you should carry out a research online. Good luck with that.

If you don't have to work with graphics intensive program like 3D rendering, too much working with latest photoshop suite then you can choose simple Intel or AMD dual core processor equipped laptop. Single core will work but for casual gaming or streaming video it may show lag. Also if you want to hook up your pc to HDTV then you need HDMI port.plenty of brands are available, I prefer hp or lenovo, hp g6 series with Intel pentium dual core processor would be good choice. As model varies from country to country thus I can't recommend any particular model It is better if you list down your expectation from the laptop you are going to buy. Then search different hardware forums what hardware requirement you actually need. Then check out price comparison sites. select few models which fits to your budget and requirement. toshiba that is the brand of my laptop brought from the U.S becuase one of the beast laptop outside is toshiba, i also like APPLE but its too expensive but i love there features, sony good also.

Well if you are on a budget - best choice is Dell Inspiron , this model of Dell is great because it have low priced machines as well as high priced quad-core gaming laptops. If you have money to spend $1200+ , then you must check some Apple macbook pro or air - the best OS and products on the market are form Apple and they are great for working , user frinedly and etc. Cheers
