If you could make up your traveling the way you wanted what would you do and where would you go?
As I love cruising, I have been reading about doing a world cruise. You cruise to all ports of the world in Europe, and many other places in about 104 days.
I have decided that is probably my best way to get to see major cities in different countries and not have to spend a lot as once the cruise is paid for then I can eat on board the ship, my room is there so I don't have to look for places to stay and find restaurants.
I can spend my time concentrating on what each country has to offer during the day and then come safely back to the port to a relaxing dinner watch the sunset and retire to my room.
Would you consider doing this type of vacation to get to see more of the world on a tight budget?

The cheapest way to travel around the world is by air on a popular routing. My route cost about £1000. It was London to LA to Hawaii to Sydney to Adelaide overland to Cairns to Darwin to Singapore to London. At my own expense I went to Indonesia and Malaysia from Singapore.
One of my friends did a round Europe cruise for his honeymoon and it was really pricey. They went to went to ports in France, Italy and Spain. The sort of cruise I would adore but not be able to afford is a weeks cruise around the Galapagos looking at the wildlife. I would also be keen to you on a yacht around the Caribbean Islands.
On a cruise time at each port is limited and excursions by coach from the port can be expensive. There might not be enough time to see it independently.

I value the time you took to explain everything to me.
I have just learned to love the ships and water over flying.
I think after being in the military twice during two wars and flying every which way the Army would have me go, I would rather cruise.
This is something I am saving for. Not something you just jump up and say I am going unless rich. But, I am sure there are affordable excursions offered by the cruise lines which I had when I went to Mexico.
I have set my mind on certain things to see if I did this kind of trip so its pretty much laid out in my head.
thanks for your input it was very greatful and valuble in helping me watch what to select!

I went on a cruise once and I would recommend it. As you said, you can visit a lot more places and don't have to worry about the usual things. The only thing bad about a cruise is I gained at least 10 pounds! There was food always available and it was free!

Yea I would definately be found in the workout center if I get to ever go on one that long!
I have been on two one 7 days and one 5 days.
We walked the bridge a lot to walk off the meals!
I found that room service you did not tend to overeat as much...specially nice if you had a balcony which my girlfriend and son and I had for the 7 day cruise.
My husband and I went cheaper on the 5 day cruise and got a oceanview.
We are going again around December for a 7 day cruise I want to see Beleize, as my granddaughters heritage is from there.
I don't overeat that much, but I love all the different hot teas they have LOL
I am a true Tea lover.
My son when he went with me he wanted to bring home the endless coffee pot! LOL

I think a cruise would be awesome - I've never been more than a few hours on a ferry, so I think being able to put my stuff away and sleep in the same bed every night would be a great way to end a busy day of sightseeing.
I do know when my mom had a condo in Durango CO, we'd go out on day trips to the ruins in the area. Only a few times did we spend a night away from the condo for longer trips.
When I went to Kansas this last May, we spent the night in the same hotel room, but did day trips around the area - the hotel lacked a lot, but having a "home base" made up for some of its lacks.

Excuse me for saying this, but you don't seem to have much idea of where the major cities are, especially in Europe. It's rather like your ship is in Miami and you are going to have a daytime visit to Houston and be back in time for dinner.
The idea of a cruise is nice but 104 days to see the world? My dear, it takes a lot longer than that!
I think you should dream about Caribbean cruises instead - they are a lot more realistic.

If you go to Vacationstogo where I book my cruises from you can see the world cruises there.
They stop in many different ports.
A carribean cruise is only 5 to 7 days long depending on where you port out of.
And that can be San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mobile, Alabama, Galvaston,Texas, Cape Canaveral (Port Canaveral), and Tampa, Florida.
I am sure I have missed a few ports, but it depends on which cruise line you are going on depending on where you would embark from.
But the world cruise is entirely different.
Thanks for sharing.

I am from a background where I consider cruise a luxury - and something which not all of us can afford. In fact majority of mylot users will be people who may make only short travel occasionally and not people capable of paying for costly cruises.
I am happy u enjoy cruise like that. I wish u enjoy and post your experience in mylot. good day.

Its a dream for now but anything is possible if we save our pennies every day.
I would have never dreamed I would have been able to afford 2 cruises one 7 days and last year one only 5 days.
If you live in the US, and going to destinations like the Caribbeans, those are our cheapest cruises.
But it has allowed me to touch and value such history in Mexico. You might step on foreign ground, but for me a piece of my heart stays there. To see first hand, the history of other countries is just awesome.

I was on a cruise once in the 90s and I don't think I would want to be on the water for that long. I was on a 7 day cruise and my stomach hurt for 3 days until I finally threw up. I like to be on the water, but seriously doubt that I could handle 3 months of it. I think I would rather take a trip to work in a foreign country like I did in China. I was able to travel and I was paid as well. Have a great week!!!

Hi marie: I have never thought about it, seriously until I've read your discussion mentioning all the advantages of traveling in a cruise so I look for more information about a cruise through Europe and I have to say that it sounds great. I would love to visit france, spain, the uk, italy and sweden. It must be fantastic. I'd enjoy traveling in a cruise, sure.

I would, the biggest problem as I see it is the time you would need for it. I would't be able to take that much time off at once. Otherwise I would definitely consider it! so if you have the time for it, why not?

I have actually never been on a cruise, but it certainly does sound like a good way to see the world - its like being on a massive hotel on the sea! Such fun! Hope that one day I'm able to go on a cruise or even a round the world cruise like you are getting to go on. I am also thinking that getting a round the world plane ticket is also a very good idea - then you can hop on and hop off as you choose wherever you want to go!
