Cartoons too adult

Do you think cartoons nowadays are too adult? Back when I was little we had My little Ponies, mickey mouse, cartoons that were for kids. Now we have a bunch or cartoons that are too adult! There's always references or hints at adult ideas. I personally like some of these shows but don't let my kids watch them. I record them to watch at nighttime by myself. I just think that when it's a kids channel you shouldn't have to worry about what's coming on next. What do you guys think?

I think that depends on the show you are watching. Because, as you grow older you tend to watch things that are in range with your age.

Hmmm. Then what should I as a 27 year old watch?( said ponderingly) I do watch "adult shows" but I have many cartoons I watch too. I think a new thread is in order to find out what other people are watching. I am a serious person and I would say mature but I can't resist a funny cartoon.

Can't say, depends on your preference. There are quite a few, coming from Adult Swim. Also, there is South Park, Simpsons, etc. I'm in the same boat as you are, although some shows may seem a little bit too childish, I still watch it sometimes. i.e. Spongebob.

Some of them are! Back in the days, when you see cartoon on Tv you'll know it's for kids. But nowadays, it's no longer the case. Some cartoon like american dad, family guy and simpsons are not kids. Some cartoon channels show are a bit adult too. So I always look at what my kids are watching.

LOL!:) I sometimes find that cartoons today are not just for kids anymore and sometimes are not for kids. There are cartoons such as Family Guy and other PG rated toons that are not suitable for young audiences because of explicit use of language or images. But what I just love about today's animation is that, it is so advance (such as Toy Story 3D, Coraline, Cars, 9, etc) and most of it are done with so much creativity. I love those kinds of cartoons. I think there are more of an animation than a cartoon.

Maybe you have right. I watched cartoons myself. I love Family Guy and I think this cartoon is strictly for adults.

I actually think quite the contrary. You have so many cartoons nowadays that have no point or center story. They just stumble from beginning to end with no true direction. That is not very adult at all. But if you are talking violence and themes in cartoons, are you aware that Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes for example are rated TV MA meaning they aren't for children, yet we let our kids watch them all the time. There is no difference between those cartoons and the ones nowadays in that aspect. Now if you want true adult cartoons. I say watch Young Justice with your children. I believe it is very mature for its atmosphere but I would let my children watch it in a heartbeat because it is a worthwhile cartoon.

Yeah that is really true the cartoons now are not as good as they used to be, although the only cartoons i've seen that really show an adult reference would be ones like simpsons, family guy, american dad, and some others like the ones they show on adult swim. I've just seen most cartoons today seem to be made for super young kids and everything else is just some kid reality show.

I do believe that some of the shows that are on today for kids to watch do deal with some really grown up things. Shows like Victorious, icarly, and some others like those can be too risky at times.

There are plenty of cartoons geared towards children that are purposelyage appropriate. What you are seeing is a shift in marketing where now some cartoon are made for adults (where in the past this was never done) because there is a whole generation of people who grew up on cartoons and now want to watch them in their adulthood.

i noticed this too.... i mean they still had some adult things in thos older cartoons but only adults could ever really pick up on them... i totally agree with you tho... they aren't as children friendly as they used to be

too adult ? maybe...but a thing is for sure they will not be the same as bugs bunny speedy gonzales looney tunes etc...in nowadays they don't think when they draw something ,no story, poor humour...they have no imagination like the past drawers had...all they think is to make money fast..end of story.
