What do you do with a cyber bully?

There is someone who is totally obnoxious, arrogant who loves to make up trash about me to bait me in conversations. I can usually rise above his nonsense and ignore him, but at times I really like to tell him off. I really detest bullies and I know many people can't defend themselves from bullies, so sometimes I feel I should tell him off.
However, I don't want to provoke him into doing any possible real damage. Of course I am not even sure he could, but people who are good with computers can sometimes hack into others info. Has anyone had problems with a bully and how did you handle it? Have you heard of anyone who was harmed by a cyber bully?

Cyber-bullies are just like real-life bullies. Just ignore the guy and you'll be fine. Besides, you can say whatever you want on the net and he won't even get to you so you'll be fine.

What I can advice you should do is keep your computer free from malwares and trojans to protect yourself from information thieves.

Just ignore such like people and they will get tired of their games to irate you. When you are working online, its rare to find such like people, unless the person has certain intentions to harm you- but only when you answer a negative to a negative approach.

I'd say ignore and report, plus if you're worried about the bully being a hacker or similar, up the security on your computer. There are a lot of free anti-virus programs, anti-spyware etc. and firewalls you can download from the internet, instal and use for free.

Report, report, report.
Never rise to the bait. Ignore and report. Let Admin handle it - that's what they're there for. It's like calling the Police every time the weird stalker guy follows you somewhere. Don't get involved, just call the authorities.

Thing is I don't think it is serious enough to bother anyone. I know there is a point where it is too late and I hope it doesn't come to that. One has to also be careful they don't come across as paranoid and I always prefer to handle my own problems. As I said, that can get me in trouble too.

Being bullied even if it is online is very difficult. The best way to avoid such is to totally ignore them as if they don't exist. They tend to bully more people if we are reacting on their actions. I hate bullies specially if the person they are bullying has no power to retaliate back to them.

yes i have heard a lot of stories like this to some of my friends, and i hope this won't happen to me. because doing this does not only invading the privacy of other people but also distracting their self determination as well.

The "ignore and report" solutions sounds good to me..Plus you didn't mention what site, if it is here, then the most you can do is to also delete..But if this is on
FB, you can also block the offender from even finding you..

hi stary1 when i first joined mylot I was hounded by this bully who sounded like he was thirty b ut was really barely twenty. He told me I did belong on mylot as i was too old, that smoking was just fine and stop making discussions and on and on.At first it hurt bu t I ignored him then one d ay he really really poured on the insults
so I hit the exclamation point in tears as I did not want to do that but was pushed to the wall. Mylot admins actually sent me a letter telling me he had done his last insulting on my lot as he was barred from having an account there . He tried to come back under a different user name and was recognized and banned from ever appearing on mylot again. I was just one of ten or twenty others whom he had insulted.

Im sorry you have to go through this but you need to tell the Police about this, tell them you are having issues with someone on the internet.
A while back, I was using a chat messenger "(ICQ) and this 16 year old kid wanted to chat with me. I told him I was old enough to be his mother and wasnt interested in chatting. I didnt hear from him for a while but then, he changed his nickname and tried again. I knew it was him and blocked him. Thats when I started having problems with my computer. So I knew full well it was him.
I contacted the police, a unit we have specializing in Internet Crime and they caught him. I dont know what happened to him but I could gain control of my computer again.
So dont be afraid and dont let a bully take over your life. Block that person and keep all information about that person so that if your computer is hacked......call the police!
Good Luck!!

Hi! Cyber Bullies are attention seekers. So, never mind them. Don't read their post, block them, as if they don't exist. Don't let them affect who you are because if they do, then they win.

I either block them from talking to me or report them for they can get banned.

Good topic, stary1! I had numerous experience of cyberbullying, and now I'm reading articles on how to prevent it. In dealing with those cyberbullies, all I do is ignore/block them from all means of communications, yet some people who once were a part of our lives evolve into cyberbullies just because of estrangement and past conflict- sometimes the cyberbullying thing also result to things like life-threatening situations; I often change e-mails and never entrust others with my personal accounts in social networking sites.
